Job description
Position Summary:
The vascular sonographer is responsible for performing high-quality, non-invasive vascular ultrasound studies to aid in the diagnosis and surveillance of vascular conditions. This position requires proficiency in scanning techniques, image optimization, and hemodynamic evaluation, as well as the ability to interpret and communicate preliminary findings to physicians. The ideal candidate will be proficient in a full range of vascular ultrasound studies and have experience evaluating arteriovenous fistulas and grafts for dialysis access or eager to train in dialysis access imaging.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares and positions patient for diagnostic imaging procedures
Perform non-invasive vascular ultrasound examinations, including carotid, venous, arterial, vein mapping, and dialysis access studies. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintain a demeanor complementary to medical ethics
Positions patients appropriately to obtain high-quality vascular images, ensuring both diagnostic accuracy and patient comfort
Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation
Moves imaging equipment into specified position, determines exposure factors on basis of height, weight, portion of body involved, and degree of penetration required, and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors and produce images of proper detail, density, and accuracy
Assists radiologist in fluoroscopic and special x-ray examinations
Prepares images for reading by radiologist or requesting physician
Performs routine equipment checks and cleaning; promptly reports technical issues or malfunctions to appropriate personnel Completes forms and maintains records, logs and reports of work performed
Prepares equipment which includes cleaning and sterilizing instruments, maintain inventory of medical supplies
Education/Experience:
Completion of an educational program accredited by a mechanism acceptable to ARDMS, completion of clinical hours and studies applicable to test for RVT certification if not currently RVT registry, RVT registry certification preferred
Qualifications:

Must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform all vascular ultrasound procedures
Must have excellent customer service oriented and provide outstanding customer service to patients, physicians, visitors and co-workers
Must demonstrate understanding of patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by Preferred Vascular Group.
ARDMS – American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and/or RVT – Registered Vascular Technologist certification required
Minimum two years’ experience in interventional radiology, special procedures, cardiac cath lab or general diagnostic preferred
Knowledge of sterile technique
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required
