Job Summary:
Provides specialized perinatal care in the Maternal Fetal Centerand performs all levels of OB/GYN ultrasound and antenatal testingin an inpatient/outpatient setting. Demonstrate respect, dignity,kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families,visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.
JobDescription:
- Performs ultrasound examination per definedprotocol. Assists the patient throughout the examination,explaining testing process and ensuring patient comfort.
- Allassociates shall follow the applicable safety steps required toperform their duties to ensure safety for themselves and theirpatients, and be in compliance with Medical Center, state, andfederal safety standards.
- Examples of such steps include:performing proper safety procedures and precautions; reportingsafety concerns and incidents; using correct lifting techniques anddisposing of sharps and infectious waste properly.
- Obtains andrecords all patient data as required by the medical center, state,JCAHO or other agencies.
- Complies with all requirements of theCenter’s AIUM accreditation.
- Must be proficient in all aspects ofordered US procedure. This Center provides diagnostic images forinterpretation by Maternal Fetal Physicians. Ensure proper chargingof all procedures, coding, and modifiers are correct.
- Completedexaminations are processed on the US machine, imaging software andthe image archiving system for interpretation.
- Must assist thephysicians with invasive procedure. Preps, monitors, and assiststhe physician with invasive procedures.
- Works closely withphysicians, genetic counselor, and other nursing staff to promotegood working relationships and quality patient care.
- Complieswith house-wide BSI precautions and follows recommendations forcleaning transducers. Able to utilize Trophon per procedure.
- Operates all equipment in an effective, safe and efficient manner.
Performs routine maintenance of all department equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials,Licenses:
- Associate Degree OR ultrasound certification from AMAapproved school of Radiologic or Ultrasound TechnologyCertification through a Radiology Tech program from an accreditedhospital.
- Must be certified by the American Registry forDiagnostic Medical Sonography ARDMS in OB/GYN.
- Credentials areexpected to be kept in force for their respective areas of trainingand all related annual CMEs completed timely.
SpecializedKnowledge:
- Will have extensive knowledge of anatomy andphysiology, ultrasound physics, and ultrasound equipment.
- Use ofintravaginal scanning, Doppler Flow scanning, M-mode scanningability.
- Will be familiar with all B-Mode, Real Time, Color FlowApplications, 2D and 3D.
- Nuchal Translucency Certificationpreferred but required within two years of hire date.
- Nasal BoneCertification preferred but required within two years of hire date
- Specialty certification in one other area of OB imaging.
Kind andLength of Experience:
- Adequate clinical experience from anapproved program
- Perinatal sonographer is directly responsiblefor results acquired for interpretation by a physician.
The skillsmust not only be exceptional but the Maternal Fetal Specialist mustalso approve them in order to work independently of othertechnologists or physicians.
