As a critical member of the women’s health diagnostics team,Perinatal Ultrasound Technologists (or baby sonographers) get thatfirst look at an unborn fetus. Using your analytical and criticalthinking skills to problem-solve, you focus on every task producingimages that shed light on OB-GYN and perinatal conditions. As youperform amniocentesis, chorionic villi sampling, and other MaternalFetal Medicine procedures, you realize the privilege that comeswith being a witness to a woman’s personal healthcare moments.

Your Everyday Demonstrate proficient technical skills and knowledge in use of allultrasound/sonography equipment, protocols, procedures andproducing quality imaging of internal organs. Perform transabdominal and transvaginal scans to obtain detailedfetal anatomic exams, umbilical artery and middle cerebral arteryDoppler studies, biophysical profiles, nuchal translucency exams,2D/3D imaging studies, and cervical lengths. Expand the scope of examination according to any abnormalityidentified Select appropriate transducer and settings for the study. Assistwith invasive procedures such as amniocentesis, chorionic villisampling, and other MFM procedures and monitor patient’s vitalsigns. Review physician orders with the Radiologist to ensure the properexamination and diagnostic results. Prepare and review procedure with patient to obtain clinicalhistory/informed consent, educate, ease anxiety, answer questionsand address concerns to ensure patient cooperation. Recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere withexams and take appropriate action for a positive outcome. Maintain knowledge of fetal anatomy and fetal circulatory system,evaluate critical test findings, and review anatomic details andabnormalities with radiologists if needed. Maintain inventory of supplies and orders as needed. Maintain equipment, exam rooms and work areas in a neat and safecondition to ensure the safety of the patients and employees. Check and inspect the suite, clean and assess equipment daily forphysical or mechanical hazards immediately reporting dangerousconditions to the appropriate team member. Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistentcommunications, and an exceptional experience for everypatient. Verify all images and documentation are sent to the MFM electronicdocumentation.
The Must-Haves Minimum:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Sonography. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Sonography certification – Fetal Nuchal Translucency Certification- Fetal Medicine Foundation Current American Heart Association Basic Life Supportcertification 1 year of MFM sonography in an outpatient setting.
