4×10 Hour Shifts, No Weekends, No Call GeneralDescription of the Job Class This position is for the AmbulatoryImaging Division at Coley Hall, located in Chapel Hill, NC. Performa variety of technical activities associated with the performanceof Sonography procedures. This position must support and performother duties as assigned and supported by scope of practice.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work therein. Dutiesand Responsibilities of this Level Perform complex tasks associatedwith the operation of sonography equipment and related equipment toproduce specialized images of specific body regions. Demonstrateproficiency in performing sonogram imaging assessment anddiagnostic procedures per established protocols, policy, andpatient safety standards and does not require assistance fromfellow technologists. Uses cognitive sonographic skills toidentify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate toanatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images. Usesindependent judgment during the sonographic exam to accuratelydifferentiate between normal and pathologic findings. Analyzessonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history,and communicates findings to the Radiologist. Maintain adequatesupplies; allowing for lead time when placing orders. Ensurecustomer satisfaction and appropriateness of care for all assignedpatients. Thoroughly explains the procedures to patients and allowstime for questions and addresses concerns in a professional andkind manner. Assume responsibility for the safety, mental andphysical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer’scare. Communicate effectively with the patient and the health careteam, recognizing the special nature of sonographic examinationsand patient’s needs. Perform as a self-starter and takes theinitiative to proactively address situations before they arise orescalate. Demonstrate the ability to multi-task as needed andcommunicate in a positive and efficient matter. Perform the qualitycontrol functions related to sonography and notify appropriatepersonnel when issues arise and maintenance is required.
Continually evaluate images for diagnostic quality. Ensure safetyis a top priority. Addresses safety concerns immediately andproactively works to identify and mitigate safety risks within theworking environment. Maintains safe practices and follows protocolsfor probe disinfecting techniques. Ensure regulatory guidelines areadhered to and maintain appropriate records. Understand and use theImage Archival System Complete exam tracking/billing and chargereconciliation accurately on a daily basis and is able to modifyorders per protocol. Provide orientation and training to newtechnologists. Assist with the daily operations of the UltrasoundDepartment across the Ambulatory Platform. Schedule patients forprocedures; assist with clerical functions. Establish and maintainproductive ethical working relationships with coworkers, referringproviders and commercial agencies. Coordinate with other staff toassure appropriate patient care is provided. DUHS offers careergrowth and enrichment within Radiology Services. There is aclinical ladder program with various steps and opportunities withinthe health system. Required Qualifications at this Level EducationGraduate or completion of program that meets eligibilityrequirements for registry/certification or currently holds requiredregistry or certification. Experience None required beyond aboveeducation/certification requirements. Level I – Must obtain ARDMScertifications as required by each entity within 18 months ofemployment. Level II – Minimum of two years’ experience as aSonographer. Level III A minimum of 4 years’ experience withinspecialty modality in which they are seeking promotion. Degrees,Licensure, and/or Certification ARDMS certification within 18months of hire.
