• Assists the radiologist inperforming invasive diagnostic techniques such as needle biopsies,aspirations, and guided needle-wire placement exams for surgery
• Provides standardization and training to residents regarding theseexams.
• Evaluates any contra-indications, such as medications,insufficient patient preparation or the patient’s inability, orunwillingness to tolerate the procedure.
• Performs the ultrasoundprocedure under general or direct supervision, as defined by theprocedure and/or physician.
• Recognizes sonographic characteristicsof normal and abnormal tissues, structures, and blood flow
• Analyzes sonography findings throughout the course of theexamination so that a comprehensive exam is completed andsufficient data is provided to the physician.
• Recognizessituations or abnormalities that require the direct observation ofthe real-time scan by the radiologist.
• Images structures whilesimultaneously obtaining Doppler signal and recording images andDoppler shift recordings along with patient information forinterpretation by a radiologist.
• Advises radiologist and/orreferring physician of results of the examination and providespreliminary information regarding diagnostic evaluation.
