Spartanburg, SC Academic Advisor for Student-Athletes provides comprehensive academic support for student-athletes under the direction of the Director of the Student Success Center while also leading the student-athlete Life Skills program. Advises student-athletes towards graduation while monitoring NCAA rules and eligibility requirements.

  • Provide intense monitoring and academic support for at-risk student-athletes of assigned sports (weekly meetings, maintaining thorough documentation, progress checks with faculty, coaches’ updates, securing tutors, study hall, etc.).
  • Assist in the academic advising load of undeclared student-athletes.

Assist these students in the development of an educational plan including choosing a program of study and/or clarifying educational goals. Key aspects include maintenance of the integrity of academic policies, while being a student advocate and fostering a culture of student responsibility and success, providing students with information about possible consequences of academic decisions, and creating plans of study. Must maintain current knowledge of degree programs.

  • Monitor the admission status of incoming student-athletes of assigned sports and assist with summer orientations. Assist with student-athlete specific registration issues (i.e. priority registration, authorizing drop/add, assist with course conflicts due to athletics, etc.). Process all travel letters for assigned teams to be submitted to faculty members.
  • Manage student-athlete study hall including hiring, training, and schedule of study hall monitors.
  • Assist in coordinating Life Skills programming for all student-athletes.
  • Teach one section of University 101 in the fall semester designated for student-athletes
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Student Personnel Services or related field and 1-year related experience. Prefer experience in advising student-athletes. Previous teaching experience is highly desirable. A successful background check is required. May graduates will be considered if able to obtain their degree by the date of employment.
