STRATEGIC OVERSIGHT

As a member of the executive team, responsible for managing all aspects of student-athlete academics and student-athlete well-being. Develop and implement comprehensive academic advising strategies and student welfare initiatives that promote holistic student development and success within the athletics division. Recalibrate the services provided to student-athletes in the revenue sharing area. Provide ongoing comprehensive evaluation of the academic and student-athlete services and provide strategies that align with athletic landscape and division’s mission. This includes, but is not limited to, providing education on downstream impacts of NIL such as financial planning, contract negotiation and personal brand building. Serves as the voice of the student-athletes in executive team decision making.
Duties & Responsibilities

OPERATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS

Plans, organizes, and directs the day-to-day operations of the academic services unit and the student-athlete welfare unit, providing leadership to administrative and financial operations. Maintains the unit’s budget and resources.
Manage the staff to include hires, setting goals and expectations, providing on-going feedback and mentoring. Maintains schedules and monitors workloads to ensure staff is accessible to student-athletes, particularly in times of substantial workload (i.e. advising, registration, final exams, summer orientation and events).
Ensures staff is trained and educated on all applicable NCAA & conference rules.
Serves as sports administrator for assigned sport.

CAMPUS COLLABORATION

Collaborate with academic departments, coaches, and support staff to create a robust framework that addresses the academic and personal needs of student-athletes, fostering an environment that prioritizes their educational achievements and overall well-being.
Communicate with student-athletes, coaches, faculty, and other applicable administrative staff regarding student-athletes’ academic records concerning matriculation, graduation, NCAA eligibility and student discipline.
Create and grow key campus and community partnerships. Maintain regular ongoing communication with coaching staff in articulating support strategies for students, professional development opportunities and updating student performance and progress.
Liaison with student services, Dean of Students office, career services office and international student services.
Duties & Responsibilities

STUDENT SUCCESS

Plan and execute strategies designed to strengthen academic support services. Develop, monitor, and implement academic support services for student-athletes to include academic major, course selection, and counseling on athletic eligibility matters.
Participates in recruiting events and programs. Meet with prospective student-athletes during the academic portion of the recruitment process to disseminate information regarding the Center for Athletic Academic Services, Student-Athlete Welfare events and general University academic requirements.
Coordinates student-athlete admission and enrollment in alignment with the Division of Enrollment Management.
Supervise the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Work with the Director of Student-Athlete development on event planning.
Create a career development program for student-athletes.
Assist with NIL Education.
Work with the Director of Student-Athlete development on community service opportunities.
Create a robust student-athlete welfare educational program addressing areas such as financial literacy, media training, networking, and other professional development opportunities.
Responsible for all student-athlete exit interviews.

COMPLIANCE/REPORTS

Develop, update, and maintain student-athlete policy manual to ensure that expectations, guidelines, and university core values are communicated and provided to all student-athletes.
Consults Memphis Compliance staff, conference and NCAA officials on rules interpretation.
Coordinate academic resources to achieve division initiatives and benchmarks (e.g. APR, Graduation Rates, NCAA Academic Eligibility, Student Retention, Course Completion and GPA goals). Direct oversight for NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) planning. Provide recommendations and share relevant data to achieve annual department goals.
Coordinate student-athlete awards including but not limited to NCAA post graduate scholarship, American conference unity awards, NCAA Woman of the year and NCAA elite 8.
Leads the development and ongoing management of the academic certification process to help reduce the number of NCAA violations arising out of academics.
