Pastry Cook 2.8 2.8 out of 5 stars 1317 Beach Avenue, Cape May, NJ 08204 The Pier House is looking for a talented Pastry cook to join our team! We prepare a variety of scratch made pastries, desserts and breads for our in-house restaurant and banquets as well as amenities for our hotel guests. The ideal candidate is someone with a positive and professional attitude who is passionate about making and presenting quality desserts and has a desire to expand their knowledge. The Pasty Cook will assist the Pastry Chef in preparing all desserts for the restaurant. Job Duties include, but are not limited to: Efficiently prepare a variety of goods such as cakes, cookies, cheesecakes, bread etc. following traditional and modern recipes for all hotel outlets Create new and seasonally changing desserts and pastries Ensure the preparation and presentation of all product maintains consistent quality that our guests enjoy Production and preparation of all desserts and baked goods for banquets and special events Have an understanding of kitchen equipment and tools as well as product storage and rotation Maintain a clean and orderly station and adhere to health and safety standards
Minimum Job Requirements:
Proven experience as an Pastry Cook or relevant baking and pastry education with 2 years minimum work experience in a professional kitchen Great attention to detail and creativity such as following recipes and adding the right amount of flavorings, seasonings, and other ingredients to create tasty and successful baked goods Ability to work as a team and independently when necessary Strong organization and communication skills Willingness to learn, adapt and discover new methods and recipes Experienced knowledge of baking methods and basic techniques Working knowledge of baking with ingredient limitations (pastries that are gluten free, sugarless etc.) Ability to follow oral and written instructions when being taught Ability to follow oral and written instructions when being taught Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, recipes, menus, warning labels, packing slips and supply orders. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds including heavy stock. Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Flexibility in scheduling and willingness to cover other shifts. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to respond calmly and effectively in a crisis situation. Ability to work cooperatively with co workers Punctual, reliable transportation and dressed in correct attire Ability to work early morning hours (as early as 5:00am)
