Full Job Description About STEMspot:

STEMspot is a unique space that combines the excitement of a hands-on mini science museum with the comfort of a cozy café. Catering to children ages 0-7, we offer engaging STEM activities, parent-friendly co-working areas, and barista-made beverages. Our space is designed to inspire curiosity in kids while providing a supportive community for caregivers.

Job Summary:

The Barista at STEMspot is responsible for crafting high-quality beverages, providing exceptional customer service, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for all guests. In addition to preparing a variety of drinks, the Barista will engage with families, helping to foster a community environment within our café.

Key Responsibilities:

Craft made-to-order beverages like coffee, espresso, and specialty drinks. Prepare simple fruit, cheese and vegetable charcuterie boards. Handle café and merchandise sales transactions. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the café area, co-working space, and bathrooms. Engage with guests, providing information about menu items and making personalized recommendations. Assist in the setup and breakdown of the café before and after service. Monitor inventory and help restock supplies as needed. Collaborate with the team to develop exciting new specials and a monthly menu. Uphold health and safety standards, including proper food handling and cleanliness practices.

Qualifications/Experience:

Previous experience as a barista or in a customer service role is preferred, but not required. If you’re willing to practice and learn, we will train you! Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently. Passionate about providing excellent customer service and creating a positive experience for families. All employees are required to complete a CORI and SORI background check.

Preferred Skills:

Basic knowledge of coffee brewing techniques and beverage preparation. Friendly and approachable demeanor. Team player with a willingness to learn and adapt. Ability to handle cash and process transactions accurately.

Schedule:

We will need a Barista a few shifts a week on weekdays and either on Saturday or Sunday, based on your preference. Opportunities for more hours and shifts are available in the Fall/Winter when we are in our busy season.

Hours:

Baristas are needed 12-20 hours a week and can choose weekdays, weekends or a combination that works best for their schedule. Shifts are flexible from 4-8 hours long, making this an ideal role for those trying to work around school drop-off and pick-ups or class schedules.
