JOB SUMMARY

The Head Sommelier leads the wine team and gives support to the service team. Sommeliers have a strong service orientation and be knowledgeable in both international wine and beverage. The candidate needs to be confident and read the members to guide them to the best wine selection. Sommeliers are story tellers, they have an eye for detail, are highly organized, able to stay calm under pressure and have excellent time management skills. This individual will be working service, maintaining, and growing an extensive cellar, as well as contributing to our education program. Our new Head Sommelier will be influential in all aspects of the wine department but should be eager to grow existing foundations while working with a team of equally inspired and enthusiastic professionals.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Greet members/guests cordially and efficiently and provide accurate beverage service Full understanding of international and domestic wines, spirits and beers Able to explain and/or give answers to member/guest questions on food and beverage offerings Performs opening and closing procedures including but not limited to the setup and break down of stations, sidework, clearing tables and resetting tables Maintain complete knowledge of table/seat/station numbers, room capacity, hours of operation, proper table setup and dress code of each outlet. Maintain complete knowledge of all menu items, prices, preparation method/time, major ingredients, quality standards of taste, appearance, and texture, serving temperature, portion size, garnish and method of presentation. Be primary support for servers and implementing service to standard Manage the tables and work environment with compliance cleanliness standards Notify direct supervisor when applicable to assist in monitoring and maintaining the inventory of supplies Participate in teamwork and assist other departments when needed Providing highcaliber wine service while selling/serving wine, wine pairings, and other beverages to club guests Collaborate with the Director of Operations to develop, maintain and refresh the current wine list Receiving, Purchasing, processing and inventories of all wine and spirits Develop and execute wine events to include exclusive wine dinners, tastings, and social wine events. Ability to command a floor, prioritize, resolve unexpected issues and remain an effective leader. Work jointly with the culinary team to establish appropriate wine pairing options that both complement and enhance menu. Genuine passion about food, wine, and hospitality. Work with Training Supervisor to develop an ongoing staff wine and spirits education program. Keep cellar and wine storage organized and well maintained. Correctly recording the relocation of wines from one cellar to another and maintaining the various cellars Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Operations

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Able to work varied shifts and flexible schedules Strong organizational and verbal communication skills Excellent guest and employee relations skills Able to lift and carry containers and equipment weighing 50 lbs Able to reach various levels ranging from overhead to the floor Able to work in environments with extreme temperatures Minimum of 18 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages. Certification and/or previous training in wine, liquor and food service Food handling certificate Certification in C.P.R. is recommended Certification in the court of Master Sommelier or Advanced WSET Level 3 preferred. Experience as a Sommelier in high end restaurants and/or private Club atmosphere.
