The Bartender is responsible for positive guest interactions while providing service at the bar to guests in a friendly and efficient manner. The Bartender is expected to be attentive to guest needs and make them feel welcome, comfortable, important and relaxed. Responsible for the accuracy of all orders entered into the Point of Sale (POS) System, cash handling, and inventory of all liquor, wine and beer in their working area. Bartenders are responsible for utilizing their knowledge and experience to help support and educate the service staff as well as guide the guest through an extensive list of beverage offerings. Position reports directly to the Kitchen Manager and Assistant General Manager. Responsibilities (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions) Promptly and efficiently serves guests and interacts with other staff members in a professional manner according to restaurant guidelines and standards. Responsible for using a jigger. Maintains & applies full knowledge of all menus, cocktails, wines, and other restaurant information with guests, such as seasonal rotating taps, restaurant hours, gate locations, restrooms, etc. Should possess the knowledge and skill to up-sell to premium brands of liquor. Effectively completes all assigned opening/closing side- work in bar, kitchen and service well, cashier station for efficient operation during meal periods. Efficiently maintains a clean and organized assigned bar station during work shifts. Assists servers in bar knowledge (proper glassware, garnish, etc.) and proper entry of beverage orders into the POS system. No drinks should ever be made without a printed slip. Acts as an ambassador to the restaurant in providing guests with all relevant information that will help ensure they have an exceptional dining experience. (e.g., food preparation, ingredients, cooking temperatures, out of stock items). This also includes being knowledgeable of all guests’ dietary restrictions. Maintains effective working knowledge of the POS system to ensure that all food and beverage orders are accurately entered. Cross-serves/bartends and/or assists team members as needed in all departments and across multiple venues to ensure that guests receive the best possible service and product from their arrival through after the guest leaves, completing side work, paperwork etc. Maintains positive and effective communication with co-workers, chefs, other team members and managers regarding all relevant information, special considerations or concerns pertaining to our guests. Maintains a constant flow of dishes, glassware and trays throughout the kitchen and bar. Maintains guests in their section including preparing/running all beverages, food, bussing and resetting bar top. Effectively, re-stocks items in the bar as needed and alerts kitchen staff or Manager of stock shortages. Accurately and promptly prepares and receives guests’ payments and all transactions. Prepares all end of shift paperwork accurately and submits all transactions (including cash, charge, etc) to Manager and/or Bartender at the end of each shift. Confirms & double checks in the presence of another person or manager all cash transactions. Maintains thorough knowledge of relevant cash register procedures as instructed by managers. Consistent use of cash register with a minimum of errors. Secure all monies during and at the end of each shift. Consistent adherence to guest check procedures as instructed. Must balance register at the beginning and end of each shift. Picks up liquor, wine, beer from their respective storerooms in compliance with the proper requisitioning procedure. Working knowledge of the beer/ tap system. Ability to change kegs. Ability to multi-task and assist on the Quick Service station. Effectively communicates health and/or safety concerns/violations immediately to the supervisor. Observes health code practices as it relates to food and beverage service and storage. Maintains a high level of professionalism when interacting with all other staff members and guests. Attends all informational and team building meetings. Performs all other related duties as assigned by management. Must maintain flexibility to work across multiple venues within the airport environment. To retain full-time status and a 40-hour workweek, employees may be scheduled at any location as operational needs dictate—including new openings, temporary coverage, and training support. Food and Beverage Menu Knowledge Upon completion of training, the bartender should be knowledgeable of all food and beverage menus. Bartenders should be able to point out which items are gluten free, or have allergens, or can be made to accommodate allergies. Bartenders should know which items are allowed modifications and upcharges. Bartenders should be able to describe the difference between IPAs, Lagers, and all other beers on the menu. Bartenders should be knowledgeable on basic cocktails and always reference the bar book for drinks they are unfamiliar with. Bartenders should be able to describe the brand and history of the venues they are working. Bartenders should be participating in routine beverage training to get a more well-rounded feel of our beverage program, including wine. Bartenders should check both kitchen and bar whiteboards before starting their shifts. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous bartending experience required. Excellent oral communication skills required. Positive interpersonal skills required. Must speak English fluently and be able to write in basic English. Knowledge of restaurant Point of Sales Systems (POS), helpful. Knowledge of local and state alcohol serving laws required. Must be ServSafe Certified (Alcohol) or TIPS equivalent. Strong written and verbal communications skills and exceptional consciousness of non-verbal language. Exceptional customer service skills to include the ability to handle guest issues with tact and diplomacy. High level of active listening skills. Strong organizational and time management skills. This role routinely uses sinks and dishwashers and tools to clean kitchen appliances. Employees in this role are frequently exposed to hot water, potentially slippery floors, garbage disposals and cleaning chemicals.
