Duties:

Airport baggage transporters are responsible for moving luggage and oversized items once they’ve been checked in and tagged by an airline agent. Luggage will either be placed directly on the belts at the ticket counters or, in the case of oversize luggage, may need to be transported via cart to a TSA baggage drop-off area. Additionally, on some occasions, baggage may need to be taken to an airline baggage service offices (BSO). While the vast majority of luggage is moved directly from the scale to the belt at the counter, carts are available to assist with moving oversized items downstairs to the TSA drop-off area. While performing the duties of this job, employees are frequently required to stand and walk continuously. Additionally, employees must frequently lift, move and transport luggage up to and often times exceeding 50lbs. Lastly, all baggage transporters are cross-trained to perform the duties of an airport wheelchair assistant (PSA). This includes assisting passengers with disabilities and passengers who are elderly with wheelchair and baggage assistance, when needed. Passengers who have hearing, sight, or other disabilities will also be provided assistance as needed. When performing these duties, the pay rate is $13.00/hr plus tips. Employees do receive regular cash tips and all tips are theirs to keep.
