A Banquet Captain serves as a liaison between several different parties or departments, including the event host, event guests, Executive Chef and kitchen staff, the Events Manager, the F&B Director, and the serving and bartending staff. The main focus is on providing high-quality customer service while ensuring large-scale operations are well executed.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Coordinate and supervise the execution of all banquet functions to ensure that all services, menu items and activities requested/indicated on the Banquet Event Order (BEO) are provided. Attend regular BEO meetings with management team members. Act as the on-site contact to ensure all expectations are met or exceeded. Make staff schedules for events. Forecast food, liquor, wine, and other beverage consumption to anticipate amounts to be purchased or requisitioned prior to the banquet event. Ensure all functions are set and staff is prepared and organized before time stated on the BEO. This includes reviewing the BEO with staff, inspecting linens, dinnerware, glassware, silverware, and condiments for correct placement and cleanliness. Manage setup of audio-visual equipment and any other requested items on the BEO. Maintain constant contact with kitchen staff to ensure effective communication between food production and food service Conduct walkthroughs of all areas of service during the event to visually monitor service. Assist in service by directing traffic, anticipating needs/problems, and filling in when needed. Investigate and resolve challenges regarding food quality, service, or meeting space. Supervise clearing and post event cleanup, ensuring that all dinnerware, glassware, silverware, linen, etc. are returned to their proper locations. Supervise the handling, storage, and security of all catering service equipment. This includes monitoring and controlling the maintenance/sanitation of the banquet areas and equipment. Conduct post-event operational evaluations to improve quality and efficiency of operations. Ensure all required paperwork for each event and closing shift report is returned to the catering mailbox. Perform additional duties as requested by management.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Prior experience in the food industry with a minimum of 2 years as a Banquet Captain, Catering Manager, or a lead server in a high volume operation. Knowledge of how to read and execute BEOs. The ability to take on several tasks simultaneously and adapt to changing work dynamics with a high degree of optimism, professionalism & collaboration. Ability to work a schedule that may vary from week to week based on business demands, and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Advanced level of written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work well with fellow team members in stressful, high-pressure situations. Strong knowledge of service standards, and different service types. Knowledge of health department rules and regulations, and liquor laws and regulations. Must be computer literate. Commitment to following the Club’s safety protocols. High school diploma or GED. Capable of standing for long periods of time, and able to lift up to 50 lbs. Food Handler certification (or certified within 60 days of hire).
