Department Profile:
The Department of Biochemistry, Nutrition and Health Promotion pursues an academic research and service mission within the traditions of Land-Grant Universities. The Department offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees and currently advises approximately 500 undergraduate and 200 graduate students.
Anticipated Appointment Date:
May 2025.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Cooking:
- assisting with sensory lab testing and research with respect to consumer testing, shelf-life testing, and expert sensory panels.
- Understands and strictly adheres to health, safety, food handling, and sanitation requirements before, during and after meal preparation.
- Support the planning, preparation and participation of cooking activities.
- Assists in the kitchen clean up and

Minimum Qualifications:
HS Diploma or GED, focus
General Studies Preferred Qualifications:
One or more years assisting with sensory testing and research with respect to consumer testing, shelf-life testing, and expert sensory panels.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to interact and work with others.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of computer systems and software, i.e. MS Office.
Ability to follow instructions and to meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently. Working Conditions and Physical Effort
- Ability to sit most of the time with some bending and reaching.
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend periodically.
- Ability to engage in repetitive movement of wrists, hands, and fingers – stirring, lifting, prepping food, typing and/or writing.
- Ability to work frequently at close visual range (i.e. preparing and analyzing data and figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal, extensive reading).
- Ability to receive and respond to oral communication.
- Ability to exert up to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Work Environment:
- Work is generally performed in a kitchen and an office environment.
- Noise level in the work environment is moderate to occasionally loud (examples: banging, clanging, chopping, business office with computers and printers, light to moderate traffic, human voices).
