SUMMARY:
The job of Child Nutrition Assistant was established forthe purpose to assist in quantity preparation and serving of foodsat an assigned school site; assist in maintaining food servicefacilities, equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitarycondition.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Unpacks, carries and assists in the preparation and service offood; prepare fruits, vegetables, cereals and desserts; assemblevarious ingredients as assigned; package and wrap food itemsaccording to established procedures and portion control standards;serve meals on serving lines; take temperature of foods prior toserving as assigned. Assist in maintaining food service facilities, equipment andutensils in a clean and sanitary condition; clean spills in atimely manner to assure a safe and sanitary work environment; washtrays, pots, pans, plates, utensils and other serving equipment byhand or dishwashing machine; include adding detergent andsanitizing agent and regulating temperature and water flow tothoroughly clean. Clean serving counters, tables, chairs, food containers andother food service equipment; prepare food and beverages for sale;count and set-up plates, trays and utensils Prepare salad, sandwiches and packaged foods for distribution;mix, slice, grate and chop food items; open cans; set out preparedfoods; replenish containers as necessary Perform routine cashiering duties utilizing a Point of Sale(POS) system as assigned; count money and make correct change Stock condiments, food items and paper goods; assist in thestorage and rotation of supplies in storage areas Performs related duties as required
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from high school or GED preferred and someexperience in food service or housekeeping work; or any equivalentcombination of training and experience which provides the requiredknowledge, skills and abilities Standing for extended periods of time Reaching overhead, above shoulders and horizontally Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to provide timely service of foods for students andstaff at an assigned school site Assist in maintaining food service facilities, equipment andutensils in a clean and sanitary condition Learn methods and procedures for preparing and serving food inlarge quantities Learn sanitation practices related to the handling and servingof food Learn the proper operations of a POS system Wash, cut, slice, grate, mix and assemble food items andingredients Communicate effectively both orally and in writing Work cooperatively with others Understand and follow oral and written directions Operate a cash register and make change accurately Establish and maintain cooperative and effective workingrelationships with others Maintain regular and consistent attendance Some knowledge of food sanitation guidelines TILT and HACCPprocedures Ability to calculate simple recipe extension Ability to complete basic records such as temperature logs Ability to thoroughly clean and sanitize kitchen area,equipment and utensils Ability to communicate in a pleasant, positive manner withstudents, staff, parents and coworkers

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequentlyrequired to stand, walk, sit, talk and listen. The employee isoccasionally required to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel:reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Theemployee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds or moreat times.
