Assistant Cafeteria Manager

Job Summary:

To prepare and serve nutritious meals for students and staff in an efficient, safe, and inviting cafeteria environment.

Essential Functions:

1. Prepare and serve meals.
Breakfast. The cafeteria manager performs all breakfast tasks (prepare food, maintain serving line) without any additional food service worker.
Oversee serving line during lunch – restock as needed.
2. Manage food service records.
Order food and supplies.
Maintain up-to-date free/reduced meals information.
Complete required reports.
Collect and count money for meals and supplemental items.
3. Oversee kitchen operation.
Clean.
Prepare food.
Maintain equipment.
4. Supervise food service workers.
Schedule work times.
Plan, schedule, and oversee work tasks.
5. Communicate appropriately within the school environment.
Establish and maintain an inviting cafeteria atmosphere.
Maintain appropriate confidentiality.
Keep Principal and Food Service Director informed of cafeteria issues.
6. Participate in staff development activities.
7. Work closely with Child Nutrition Director to continually update menus which are nutritious and which meet student requests to ensure increased participation.
8. Plan and participate in special activities which support the instructional program.
9. Cater special events as needed.

Other Functions:

1. Other duties as assigned by the principal.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

High school diploma.
Knowledge of food preparation and sanitation
Ability to maintain accurate records and complete necessary reports
Previous experience in school food service preferred

Terms of Employment:

10 months – Cafeteria Manager Salary Scale

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of Board of Education policy, North Carolina statutes, and goals established by the Principal.

Environmental Factors:

This position requires lifting (even heavy lifting with assistance), walking up and down steps, standing for extended periods of time, having hands in water for dishwashing and cleaning, handling cleaning agents.
