Food Service Worker/Baker Full-Time 6a – 2:30p St. Elizabeth Motherhouse 115 E Main St, Allegany, NY 14706

General Summary :

Responsible for various aspects of meal preparation, cleanliness of the food service areas and service to those eating at the Motherhouse.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

As assigned by the Dietary Manager, provides service in one or more of the specialized areas of the department. Responsible for meeting the baking needs of the campus for daily meals and special events when the Baker is not available. Responsible for serving food and cleaning tables/appliances in the dining areas; for providing a welcoming atmosphere for those dining. Prepares meals when the cook is not available. Assists cook in general meal preparation procedures. Demonstrate skill in the arrangement and set up of food in the heated tables, salad bar, and condiment tables. Check that the condiment containers are filled with the necessities for the meal. Check that plates, trays, cups, glasses, soup bowls and dessert dishes are sufficient for the number being fed. Demonstrate skill in tray preparation for healthcare and assisted living residents. Distribute and collect menus for those who need this service. Have knowledge of and use standard sanitation practices in serving food. Responsible for general cleaning of the kitchen and dining room as assigned. Prepares dishes and utensils for dishwasher. Demonstrate completeness and consistency in cleaning and maintaining the heating tables, salad bar, condiment, and beverage areas. Restock the refrigerators and pantry areas as needed from the general storerooms. Assists with special events such as banquets, receptions, etc. 2. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Capable of lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying supplies, trays, etc. Able to stand, walk, and move about as needed for long periods of time. Physically capable of bending and climbing. Flexible and adaptable to daily changes in routines that may be necessary. Dependable, trustworthy, able to communicate with staff, residents, and guests. Pleasant and respectful in dealing with all people. Willing to learn, open to suggestions and willing to ask for information as needed. High school graduate or the equivalent. Able to meet the attendance requirements, to maintain a fully scheduled staff. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift 25-50 pounds without restrictions. Must be able to work overhead. Capable of bending, pushing, pulling, reaching and stretching. General good health to meet attendance requirements and needs of your job. Good mobility as there is much walking and standing for long periods involved in the large work areas. Exposure to climate changes and temperatures. Able to use the necessary chemicals for cleaning. Accountability The Food Service Worker is directly accountable to the Dietary Manager. The Food Service worker is accountable to the Cook in the absence of the Dietary Manager. Working Conditions Busy environment, multiple interruptions, considerable walking, well equipped, bright work areas.
