Job Description
Effective for the 2025-2026 school year a vacancy exists for an Assistant Cafeteria Manager within the Norristown Area School District located at Norristown Area High School. The Assistant Cafeteria Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the activities of assigned food service personnel. The Assistant Manager additionally ensures compliance with policies and procedures, as well as current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing food service operations
Requirements:
High School Diploma or its equivalent
Two years food service experience or any combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Human Resources
Knowledge of methods, equipment, and appliances used in food preparation
Knowledge of best practices utilized in the food service industry
Knowledge of basic food service safety rules
Some knowledge of the National School Lunch Program
Ability to oversee and direct the activities of an assigned staff
Ability to address and effectively resolve staff and/or operational problems
Ability to keep records and prepare reports, as required
Ability to make basic mathematical computations
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff and students
Knowledge of budgets and ability to monitor budget processes.
Strong organizational skills and strategic planning skills, pro-social collaboration, communication and planning skills, and technology skills.
Ability to be flexible, self-directed, and motivated.
Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with staff and students.
Ability to do job responsibilities with minimal supervision and ability to schedule time to meet deadlines.
Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.
Duties and responsibilities: Manages food service operations within assigned building including staff supervision, food preparation and service; coordinates food service activities with the Cafeteria Manager
Implements the District’s planned menu; plans quantity of food to be prepared and served; supervises special meals and service to outside groups
Promotes student wellness by purchasing foods with minimal nutritional value and procuring food that meets the Nutritional Standards for Competitive Foods in the a la carte program
Ensures compliance in safety and accident prevention; oversees and ensures the implementation of the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system and documentation
Instructs staff in the use of the point of sales system which includes point of sales, close of day, bank deposit, and cashier reconciliation; sale and meal counts, prepayment summary, customer information, transaction logs, and account history
Actively engages in debit reduction on accounts; provides assistance to families in the application process for the free and reduced program, where applicable; actively communicates with parents and guardians regarding accounts, as needed
Assists with maintaining daily cash receipts and income records
Assists with maintaining inventories of food and supplies; places orders for food when needed; ensures the security of all food, supplies, and materials; reports equipment repair needs
Maintains a clean and safe working area; ensures compliance with the Montgomery County Health Department and District’s standards on sanitation
Perform other duties as assigned
Salary & Schedule
10 Month
6:00am- 2:00pm
$29.35/ hour ( 2024-2025 rate)
