Summary/Objective Cate Street Seafood Station, a high-energy restaurant serving sushi, fresh seafood, steaks, and American favorites, is looking for an experienced and passionate Lead Sushi Chef to join our team. The ideal candidate is a leader in the culinary field, has strong sushi and knife skills, and is excited to be part of a collaborative and growing sushi team. Essential Functions Prepares sushi for and interacts with guests at the sushi bar as well as manage/lead the sushi team/dept. Lead sushi bar operations, ensuring high-quality preparation and presentation Create and innovate sushi dishes while honoring traditional techniques Collaborate with culinary team on menu planning and specials Train and supervise sushi chefs Ensure proper inventory, freshness, and seafood handling Uphold health, food safety, workplace safety and cleanliness standards Competencies Collaboration Skills. Customer/Client Focus. Flexibility. Stress Management/Composure. Communication Adaptability Supervisory Responsibility This position leads and manages the sushi department and sushi team. Scheduling This position requires a minimum of 2 weeknights and 1 weekend night. Work Environment This job operates in a kitchen environment, housed with equipment such as an oven, stove, dishwasher, slicer, steamer, mixer and chef’s knives. The employee is frequently exposed to heat, steam, fire and noise. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 50 pounds or less. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills; and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a FT position working an average of 48 hours per week. Travel No travel is expected for this position. Required Education and Experience 5+ years of sushi chef experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role Expert-level sushi and sashimi preparation skills Strong understanding of Japanese culinary traditions and techniques Experience in high-volume or multi-concept restaurants a plus Leadership and team management skills Food Handler Certification (or ability to obtain)
