Overview:
The purpose of May Bakery & Cafe is to provide class service to all guests. The pastry chef will be accountable for the success of the baking side of operations. Exhibit exceptional talent by personally performing tasks for all baking related functions. Work to continually improve guest satisfaction while maintaining within the operating budget. Must ensure sanitation and food standards are achieved.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee all aspects of pastry production, ensuring consistency, quality, and presentation. Develop all required recipes and refine recipes for a variety of pastries and puff pastry items. Innovate and create new menu items that showcase unique pastry techniques and flavors. Prepare and bake a variety of pastries, maintaining proper ingredient measurements and baking temperatures. Set and adjust time and speed controls for mixing, blending, and baking equipment to ensure proper texture and consistency. Monitor ingredient inventory, track food supplies, and place orders as needed to ensure smooth operations. Maintain an organized and clean workstation, ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. Train and mentor junior pastry staff, ensuring they follow recipes and maintain quality standards. Minimize waste by properly managing inventory, rotating stock, and implementing portion control practices. Ensure the proper storage and refrigeration of ingredients and finished products. Collaborate with the culinary team to align pastry offerings with overall menu concepts. Clean, break down, and store all baking equipment, including ovens, mixers, freezers, and refrigerators.
Experience:
2-3 years of professional pastry or baking experience. Proven ability to create and execute high-quality pastries, including puff pastry and specialty doughs. Experience in menu development and recipe innovation. Strong knowledge of professional kitchen equipment and baking techniques. Ability to read and follow recipes with precise measurements. Excellent time-management skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations. Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistency. Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
Wage and Scheduling:
$12-20/hour + tips Part time or Full time Early mornings, afternoons, weekends and holidays as required.
