Purpose:

Responsible for the daily operations of the kitchen at his / her facility.

Core Responsibilities:

Responsible for the daily operations of the kitchen. Cooking food according to agreed-upon recipes to feed the number of people expected. Ability to adjust prep / production based upon actual numbers, if different from number of expected guests. Receiving and proper storage of food and supplies as they are received. Menu & recipe development, in conjunction with the Chef Manager. Teaching and training of cooks, RL’s, RA’s, part-time staff, and students. Interacting with vendors (including sales reps and delivery drivers) in a professional manner. Catering (and at times, planning) special functions, as needed. Working with the Chef Manager to maintain, monitor, and repair equipment and facilities, as needed. Monitor quality and quantity of end results to ensure a consistent product and service level from year to year. Maintain – and ensure other team members are following through with – applicable portions of the NYS Health Code. Depending upon skillset, abilities, and needs of the culinary department, may also regularly perform duties found under the “Chef Manager” Model Ministry Description. Any other tasks / duties as assigned by the Chef Manager or Culinary Services Administrator. Daily interaction with the Chef Manager letting him/her know of any needs / concerns / events. This is often done through face-to-face, email, and written communications. Personal and professional growth and development based on yearly goals Expected to attend all-staff meetings, both for all WOL as well as all facility-specific meetings, unless schedule dictates otherwise. Meets with Chef Manager of his / her facility on a regular (minimum weekly) basis to discuss overall health of the team and any needs he / she may have. Direct reports :

Culinary RL’s, Part-Time Culinary Staff, Students Exempt/Non-Exempt Status:

This position is eligible for overtime.

Qualifications:

A clear personal testimony of faith in Christ Agreement with Word of Life’s vision, mission, Statement of Faith and Standard of Conduct. A willingness to learn and grow in the ministry responsibilities mentioned below. Must be competent in many aspects of culinary services, and proficient in several areas. Must be skilled at written and oral communication within WOL to other departments, within his / her co-workers at each facility, as well as with guests, vendors, and other staff. Serve-Safe Certification required. Formal Culinary training preferred (5-years min. experience in lieu of formal training) Direct reports :

This job requires the staff member to be able to lift boxes, pots, pans, etc. that weigh up to 50 pounds on occasion. It may also require bending, climbing, reaching, standing, walking, sitting, grasping and repetitive motions
