JOB SUMMARY

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing basic nursing care to clinic patients following established standards and practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties may be assigned. Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, which may include checking schedules and organizing patient flow. Escorting patients to exam/procedure rooms. Observes, records and reports patients’ conditions and reactions to drugs and treatment to providers. Assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc. Collecting patient history including current medications, allergies, symptoms, etc. Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care as directed by provider; this may include screenings and administering medications and treatments in accordance with clinical and nursing standards. Prepares equipment and aids providers during treatment, examination and testing of patients and with various procedures as needed. Timely and accurate documentation in patient charts; relaying information & instructions to patient/family. Document all interventions, phone calls, patient/family responses, medication dispensed or prescribed, hospital data, etc. in medical record/EMR. Demonstrates knowledge of safe medication administration; administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards. Answering patient phone calls & messages and acting as a communication liaison between the patient and provider. Collection and handling of lab specimens following established standards and practices. Adhere to infection control safety guidelines, maintaining equipment, instruments and stock supplies. Utilizes electronic referral process to complete requested physician referrals to NCH Healthcare Group specialists and ancillary services. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include filing or sending medical records to a patient or referral provider; appointment scheduling. Knows the general condition of the equipment at all times, knows how to operate all equipment required in the course of performing procedures. Documents failures in a timely manner. Knowledgeable about treatments administered and studies performed, as well as any preparation of the patient which may be required prior to the test being performed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of High School or GED required. Minimum of 1 year of experience in health care facility or private physician office preferred. Licensed as Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Florida. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Verified ability to take accurate patient vital signs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively articulate and explain required information to patients. Knowledge of CPT and ICD9 codes. Knowledge of basic and specialty medical terminology.

Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
