POSITION TITLE
Patient Advocate
MISSION STATEMENT

POSITION PURPOSE
Focus on non-medical needs of the patient and family. Serve as liaison among patients, families, visitors, staff and physicians. Respond to questions and concerns in a timely basis. Focused primarily in the waiting room with attention to the needs of patients and families including education regarding the flow/process of the ED; observing patients for change in condition/status; familiarity with all people in the waiting room; providing comfort measures including pillows, blankets, ice packets etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Arrange to visit patients and families in ED on priority basis: Waiting Room (90%), Family Consult Room (5%), ED patient rooms if necessary (5%) Providing comfort measures to patients and families waiting (such as warm blankets, coffee, emotional support). Respond to patient questions and concerns and help to resolve issues by engaging the appropriate resource. Close working relationship with the Triage and Charge nurse
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED is required . Past experience in customer service, particularly in a high volume, fast paced environment. Strong ability to engage with a diverse population of patients. Excellent communication skills. Understanding of and empathetic toward illness and suffering, and sorrow of the patient/family. Must be able to offer comfort and consolation

Clinical setting. Exposure Class I
- Routine or potential exposure to blood, body fluids, excretions or secretions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Light work: walking.
Pay Range:
$16.70
- $22.
80 Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
