Job Description

Nature and Scope:

Uder the supervision of the Lead Cook, the Assitant Cook will assist the Cook in the preparation and service of meals and the implementation of the food service program in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and Child and Adult Care Food Program and USDA guidelines.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

1. Assists in the preparation of purchase orders according to established procedures. 2. Assists with receiving and storing food. 3. Assists with inventory of foods and utensils and equipment. 4. Assists in the maintenance of required CACFP Daily Menu and Food Service Record. 5. Complies with all sanitation and safety codes. 6. Assists with serving meals according to time schedules. 7. Assists in making menu substitutions when needed following established procedures. 8. Serves meals in an attractive manner. 9. Wears mandated attire (white uniform, enclosed, skid-free shoes), hair net, apron, manicured, short nails (free of colored nail polish) and gloves when handling food products. 10. Maintains sanitation and cleanliness in the food service area. 11. Compares food delivery invoices to food and supplies delivered. 12. Stores food and supplies properly. 13. Washes dishes, pots, pans, etc. 14. Cleans kitchen equipment. 15. Stores clean dishes, pots, pans, etc. according to guidelines. 16. Discards unused foods that were served. 17. Covers food before serving to units.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have high school diploma and/or GED equivalent. At least one year’s experience in preparing meals and ServSafe Certification.
