Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Casual Cook – PM position. The Casual Cook – PM is a part-time, casual position with no benefits, starting at $20.00/hour. This position supports the efforts of Amherst College Dining Services by providing the campus community with excellent service through the quality production of our menus. This position ensures that the quantity and quality of our production are consistent with the standards of Dining Services and works with members of the team to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations. This individual produces menu components from ingredients and is proficient in the technical skills and knowledge required to achieve this, being well-versed in food, its history, and trends. This position involves direct customer interaction and display/demonstration cooking, requiring oneself to present at all times in a professional, approachable, and supportive manner. The work schedule varies and corresponds to the College’s operational needs, but generally 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm. At times, this position may be asked to assist with production, at other times in student dining, or help out in other areas of the kitchen as needed, along with campus-wide events at any time. As our work is central to student life, their needs occur at a variety of times throughout the day, week, and year, and in such, a flexible schedule with extended shift times is required. In addition, the position is designated as providing essential services and should report to work or remain on duty even though the College is closed.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Preparation Prepared assigned menus to standard, including hot and cold menu items Maintain health and safety standards and health department regulations Communicate operational needs in an effective and proactive manner Promote and execute duties safely and to the highest standard

Qualifications:

Required High School Diploma or equivalent 1 to 3 years of related experience Equivalent work experience in lieu of minimum education and related experience Servsafe Food Handler Certification required or ability to obtain within 3 months of employment Strong verbal and written communication skills Time management and ability to multitask Ability to taste and work with all ingredients Ability to read and execute recipes and mathematically reduce or expand them Attention to detail and pride in performance Schedule flexibility and ability to work large events when needed An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check Successful completion of pre-employment physical and lift test Successful completion of required reference and background checks Preferred Experience in Collegiate or institutional food service production Interested candidates are asked to submit a resume and cover letter online at https://amherst.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/Amherst_Jobs.
