Position Summary For over 35 years, North Hill, a not-for-profit senior living community located in Needham, Massachusetts, has provided vibrant living opportunities to people 65+ by offering a host of hospitality, wellness and health care services. The Line Cook will work with the culinary team to prepare and present restaurant-quality entrées, and desserts utilizing fresh, seasonal, and local products. Multitasking and attention to detail are critical to the success of this position Understands and implements the safe operation and maintenance of professional cooking equipment Ability to perform a wide range of cooking methods using various techniques to comply with diverse and consistently changing menus Possess good knife skills as well as knowledge of professional cutlery Possess strong sanitation and hygiene standards Willingness to help others when needed, always display a team player attitude Reviews menus and recipes prior to preparation of food Inspects special diet orders to assure that the correct diet is served to the resident Performs administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc. and submit to the Executive Chef or Sous Chef Coordinates dining service with other departments as necessary Ensures that all dining procedures are followed in accordance with North Hill’s policies Assumes the authority, responsibility and accountability of Line Cook Ensures that menus are maintained in accordance with established policies and procedure Assists in establishing food service production line to assure that meals are prepared on time Processes diet changes and new diets as received from Executive Chef or Sous Chef Prepares food in accordance with sanitary regulations as well as our established policies and procedures Ensures that safety regulations and precautions are followed at all times by all personnel Follows established Infection Control and Universal Precautions policies and procedures when performing daily tasks Follows daily or scheduled cleaning duties in accordance with established policies and procedures Ensures that the department is maintained in a clean and safe manner by assuring that necessary equipment and supplies are maintained Reports all hazardous conditions/equipment to the Executive Chef or Sous Chef immediately Provides caring, thoughtful and engaging service at all times Communicates any challenges, complaints or service difficulties to immediate supervisor Meets department uniform, appearance and grooming requirements Complies with all OSHA safety regulations, local applicable laws regarding health, safety or environment Supervisory Responsibilities No Required Skills and Abilities Ability to maintain confidentiality and strong customer support skills Ability to work independently with limited supervision Must possess the ability to communicate and deal tactfully with Team Members, Residents, family members, visitors, and the general public Works professionally with people from a wide variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds When working in Resident areas, must be able to communicate effectively in English Attends and participates in in-service educational classes, Healthcare Academy, and staff meetings as directed Complies with protection of health information (HIPAA) safeguards Education and Experience High School diploma or equivalent Culinary degree preferred 2 -3 years’ experience in restaurant and/or hospitality industry Serve Safe Certification Sanitation/HAACP Certification Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team Member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
