Summary We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Line Cook to join our culinary team at Vista on 5 th. The Line Cook will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals that meet the dietary needs and preferences of our residents while ensuring the highest standards of quality, presentation, and safety. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a fast-paced kitchen, with knowledge of specialized diets such as low-sodium, diabetic, and heart-healthy meals.

Responsibilities:
Food Preparation:

Prepare meals according to established recipes, portion sizes, and dietary requirements while ensuring quality and consistency.

Special Diet Compliance:

Accommodate dietary restrictions and individual resident needs, including texture-modified meals (pureed, soft) and therapeutic diets.

Cooking and Plating:

Ensure all meals are properly cooked, presented, and served on time with attention to food safety and visual appeal.

Kitchen Safety and Sanitation:

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen by adhering to food safety protocols, sanitation guidelines, and health regulations.

Stock Management:

Assist in monitoring inventory levels, checking food deliveries for quality, and properly storing items to minimize waste.

Collaboration:

Work closely with the Head Chef, Dietitian, and kitchen team to deliver resident-centered meals and maintain open communication about meal preferences and issues.

Resident Interaction:

Occasionally interact with residents to address meal feedback and ensure satisfaction with food services.

Equipment Maintenance:

Operate kitchen equipment safely and perform routine maintenance or notify the supervisor of any equipment malfunctions.

Menu Support:

Assist in developing daily, weekly, or seasonal menus as needed, incorporating feedback from residents and staff.

Qualifications:
Education:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Culinary school or formal training is a plus.

Experience:

– Prior experience as a line cook or similar role in a commercial kitchen, healthcare facility, or assisted living setting preferred. – Knowledge of food preparation techniques, portion control, and proper handling of dietary-specific foods.

Skills:

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and hygiene practices Familiarity with specialized diets and nutrition for older adults (preferred) Excellent teamwork and communication skills •

Licensure/Certification:

ServSafe certification or equivalent is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for extended periods Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks

Work Environment:

The position involves working in a commercial kitchen environment, which may include exposure to hot equipment, cleaning chemicals, and occasional noise.
