JOB DESCRIPTION
Looking for an experienced cook that has worked in short order or traditional restaurant settings that require time management, speed, organization, and basic industry knowledge. Line cook will be responsible for setting up the day’s station, cooking food to order, replenishing pars for menu items that they are responsible for, communicating needs for ordering/prep, and cleaning station and equipment used at the end of shift. Prep Cook will be responsible for assembling items for a robust grab and go section of the market at two locations currently as well as supporting the prep needs of the hot line, working with other team members efficiently, communicating with management about items needed for ordering/waste, cleaning the equipment used and area worked in.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Food Preparation & Cooking:
Prepare and cook dishes according to recipes and quality standards. Set up workstations with ingredients and equipment. Ensure ingredients and final products are fresh. Follow recipes, including measuring, weighing, and mixing ingredients. Operate kitchen equipment such as grills, ovens, and fryers. Cook to order in a fast-paced environment, for both dine-in and takeaway. Ensure that all food meets quality standards. Portion and present dishes attractively and according to established standards. Adapt recipes to accommodate dietary restrictions and special requests.
Kitchen Operations:
Maintain a clean and safe work area, following health and safety guidelines. Handle and store ingredients and food properly, following food safety and sanitation standards. Assist with inventory counts Monitor and maintain kitchen equipment and report any issues to supervisor Communicate effectively with management, kitchen staff and front-of-house staff. Execute opening and closing procedures for the kitchen. Contribute to waste & cost control efforts.
Customer Service:
Ensure customer satisfaction by preparing high-quality meals. Listen to customer feedback and respond appropriately.
SKILLS & QUALITIES
Experience:
Previous experience as a cook in a fast-paced kitchen environment is often preferred.
Culinary Skills :
Strong cooking skills, knowledge of cooking techniques, and attention to detail in food preparation and presentation are crucial.
Food Safety:
Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices is essential.
Teamwork & Communication:
The ability to work collaboratively in a team and communicate effectively with colleagues is important.
Time Management & Organization:
Strong time management skills and the ability to organize tasks efficiently are necessary in a busy kitchen.
Adaptability:
The ability to adapt to changing circumstances and work well under pressure is a valuable asset.
Physical Stamina:
Cafe cooks may need to stand for extended periods and lift heavy items.
