What We Offer This is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. The payrate for this position is $18.81/hour and is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On‐call positions may have routine or variable work schedules. This position will work no more than 39 hours per week. Locations In this position you can expect to work on site at a recreation center operated by the City and County of Denver’s Department of Parks and Recreation. What You’ll Do The City and County of Denver’s Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is dedicated to customer service and enhancing the health of residents and the environment through innovative programs and safe, beautiful, and sustainable places. Through the operation of 30 recreation centers across Denver, DPR can offer affordable facilities, programs, and activities to residents and visitors year-round. Recreation centers offer several organized classes including, but not limited to, aquatics, arts and crafts, cultural and social activities, fitness and sports, health, special events, tours, and more. Activities are organized for children, youth, adults, people with disabilities, and active older adults for maximum enjoyment by all of Denver’s diverse communities. It takes a dedicated team of individuals to support these key day-to-day operations and programs at recreation centers across Denver. Recreation Assistants perform a variety of functions including customer service, clerical, and facility upkeep tasks to help keep recreation centers running smoothly. The Recreation Assistant position is a true entry-level opportunity for first-time employees as well as for individuals looking to make a direct impact in the community. As a Recreation Assistant, you will: Assist with front desk operations, which includes greeting customers, answering phone calls, processing transactions, and providing customers with membership and program information Assist with monitoring the day-to-day operations of a recreation center or a specific program area Assist with maintaining the cleanliness of the recreation center Support recreation activities such as sports, games, classes, outdoor activities, childcare, and special events Monitor drop-in and program spaces for safety and policy compliance. Assist with policy enforcement, when necessary Assist with the set up and take down of equipment for facility rentals, activities, and special events Attend agency-required customer service and ActiveNet training, provided at no cost Assist with emergency situations such as medical emergencies, evacuations, suspicious behavior and activity, or other unexpected situations, as necessary Perform other related duties as assigned Do you have at least one (1) year of customer service work in recreation, retail, hospitality, or other related industry? What You’ll Bring Recreation Assistants are often the first impression of a DPR recreation center for visitors. We are seeking staff members who have a passion for customer service, enjoy helping others, and can seek out opportunities to contribute to the success of a busy work environment. Recreation Assistants are comfortable delivering information to customers both in-person and over the phone. As a Recreation Assistant, you will exemplify DPR’s dedication to customer service and enriching the lives of visitors through high-quality service delivery and creating safe, inclusive, and supportive recreation environments.
