Our Downtown YMCA Family Center is seeking an Aquatic Leader tojoin their team and grow their existing Aquatic program! JobDescription Provides leadership and management of aquaticsprogramming within the Family Center. The Aquatics Director managesmember participation and retention through the development andexecution of aquatics programs to achieve strategic goals andprovide outstanding customer service to all members. QualificationsAssociate’s degree or equivalent required; Recreation Management orrelated field of study preferred. 1-3 years of experience inaquatics program management required. 1-3 years of experience instaff supervision and leadership required Current CPR/AED and FirstAid certifications required. Current Oxygen Administrationcertification required. Current Lifeguard certification/YMCAAquatic Safety Assistant or Red Cross Safety Training for SwimCoaches required. (YMCA Lifeguard certification preferred; RedCross Lifeguard certification is acceptable, but must receive YMCAcertification within 60 days). Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructorcertification required within 60 days. Current YMCA Pool Operatoron Location certification or Certified Pool Operator preferredTrainer and YMCA Aquatic Management certifications a plus. Previousexperience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive,authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
Essential Functions Implement aquatic programs including lapswimming, swim lessons, group exercise classes, and recreation swimteams, which promote retention of existing members and engagementof new members. Ensures high quality aquatics programing throughinnovative program development, evaluations, and audits of programdelivery. Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises aquaticsdepartment staff. Develops and retains staff with appropriate skilldepth level and promotes career succession planning. Collaboratewith the Safe Start Director to promote the Safe Start survivalswim program and lessons in connection with overall aquaticprogramming and member connection opportunities. Direct staff tosupport aquatic initiatives to achieve retention goals. Analyzedata, systems and processes to recognize growth and retentionopportunities. Ensure proper implementation of aquatic schedulesand procedures to provide maximum opportunities for member/staffconnections. Implements and monitors the Aquatics Safety Plan,including oversight of in-services, drop drills and all otherAssociation-wide safety and risk protocols. Collaborate with thefacilities department and Family Center Executive Director orOperations Director to establish systems for regularly scheduledpool inspections to ensure proper and efficient working order atall times. Coordinate and schedule pool and equipment maintenanceand repairs. Purchase program supplies and equipment as approved bythe electronic purchase requisition and approval (PO) process.
Monitor daily operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA ofCentral Florida health and safety standards and policies. Ensureall staff maintain required safety certifications for theirposition(s) and facilitate regular trainings in accordance withAssociation guidelines and program needs. Maintain compliance withrequired documentation of pool operation. Create and implementaquatics programs with an effort to allow participants to continuealong a succession plan from Safe Start and through the swimlessons progression to meeting and/or exceed revenue expectations.
Collaborate with Family Center department directors or staff leadsto maximize enrollments in program registration and pool usage.
Plan and execute aquatic events at the Family Center. Provideleadership through established performance goals and standards,regular assessment of staff performance including annualperformance evaluations, and staff meetings. Manage the budget forall programs within oversight, including controlling salary andsupply costs to meet and/or exceed expected net margins. Assistwith identifying and recruiting active volunteers for the FamilyCenter Annual Support Campaign. All other duties as assigned bymanagement. Required Certifications Current Lifeguardcertification/YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant or Red Cross SafetyTraining for Swim Coaches required. (YMCA Lifeguard certificationpreferred; Red Cross Lifeguard certification is acceptable, butmust receive YMCA certification within 60 days).
