Job Description Provides leadership and management of aquatics programming within the Family Center. The Aquatics Director manages member participation and retention through the development and execution of aquatics programs to achieve strategic goals and provide outstanding customer service to all members. Qualifications Associate’s degree or equivalent required; Recreation Management or related field of study preferred. 1-3 years of experience in aquatics program management required. 1-3 years of experience in staff supervision and leadership required Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required. Current Oxygen Administration certification required. Current Lifeguard certification/YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant or Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches required. (YMCA Lifeguard certification preferred; Red Cross Lifeguard certification is acceptable, but must receive YMCA certification within 60 days). Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification required within 60 days. Current YMCA Pool Operator on Location certification or Certified Pool Operator preferred Trainer and YMCA Aquatic Management certifications a plus. Previous experience with diverse populations. Essential Functions Implement aquatic programs including lap swimming, swim lessons, group exercise classes, and recreation swim teams, which promote retention of existing members and engagement of new members. Ensures high quality aquatics programing through innovative program development, evaluations, and audits of program delivery. Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises aquatics department staff. Develops and retains staff with appropriate skill depth level and promotes career succession planning. Collaborate with the Safe Start Director to promote the Safe Start survival swim program and lessons in connection with overall aquatic programming and member connection opportunities. Direct staff to support aquatic initiatives to achieve retention goals. Analyze data, systems and processes to recognize growth and retention opportunities. Ensure proper implementation of aquatic schedules and procedures to provide maximum opportunities for member/staff connections. Implements and monitors the Aquatics Safety Plan, including oversight of in-services, drop drills and all other Association-wide safety and risk protocols. Collaborate with the facilities department and Family Center Executive Director or Operations Director to establish systems for regularly scheduled pool inspections to ensure proper and efficient working order at all times. Coordinate and schedule pool and equipment maintenance and repairs. Purchase program supplies and equipment as approved by the electronic purchase requisition and approval (PO) process. Monitor daily operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA of Central Florida health and safety standards and policies. Ensure all staff maintain required safety certifications for their position(s) and facilitate regular trainings in accordance with Association guidelines and program needs. Maintain compliance with required documentation of pool operation. Create and implement aquatics programs with an effort to allow participants to continue along a succession plan from Safe Start and through the swim lessons progression to meeting and/or exceed revenue expectations. Collaborate with Family Center department directors or staff leads to maximize enrollments in program registration and pool usage. Plan and execute aquatic events at the Family Center. Provide leadership through established performance goals and standards, regular assessment of staff performance including annual performance evaluations, and staff meetings. Manage the budget for all programs within oversight, including controlling salary and supply costs to meet and/or exceed expected net margins. Assist with identifying and recruiting active volunteers for the Family Center Annual Support Campaign. All other duties as assigned by management.
