Oliver Leigh Group is a Headhunting/Recruitment firm searching on behalf of a highly exclusive Private Country Club in the northern Palm Beach area for a service-focused Fitness & Spa Director to lead a 20,000-square-foot wellness facility. This role oversees all aspects of fitness, spa, and aquatics programming in a highly seasonal environment catering to a discerning membership. With oversight of a $2 million annual operation—50% of which comes from personal training—the Director will be responsible for creating and maintaining an exceptional, industry-leading member experience. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Staff Oversight Lead a small team of full-time employees and approximately 30 independent contractors, including personal trainers, Pilates and Gyro tonics instructors, spa providers, and aquatics class instructors. Provide oversight for staffing, scheduling, onboarding, training, performance, and contractor compliance. Design and implement systems, standards, checklists and SOPs. Serve as the primary liaison to the Fitness Committee and work collaboratively to align programs with member interests and expectations. Fitness, Spa & Wellness Operations Direct the delivery and continuous enhancement of fitness services, personal training, wellness programming, and spa offerings. Ensure all fitness equipment is cleaned, maintained, and serviced regularly in coordination with Housekeeping and Engineering. Oversee six treatment rooms, two physical therapy rooms, a group fitness studio, Pilates and Gyro tonics areas, and cardio/free weight spaces. Maintain full compliance with all local and state health mandates, operational licenses, and professional standards. Aquatics Programming Manage all aquatic-related programming including water fitness classes and swim instruction. Work with Engineering to ensure pool cleanliness and maintenance. Coordinate with the Food & Beverage team regarding operations of the Pool Café when necessary, while not directly managing it. Marketing & Communication Partner closely with the Marketing Director to ensure effective promotion of group fitness classes, spa services, special events, and retail products through all club communications (email, newsletter, signage, etc.). Actively ensure members are informed and engaged through strategic messaging and collaborative planning. Facility Oversight & Renovation Projects Monitor daily facility presentation and address operational concerns in collaboration with Housekeeping and Engineering. Play an active role in the current two-summer renovation (Fitness Center in 2025; Spa and Locker Rooms in 2026). Participate in planning for a major long-term facility renovation scheduled within the next five years. Financial & Strategic Management Develop and manage departmental budgets, labor costs, and revenue streams across services and retail. Analyze participation trends and member feedback to make data-informed decisions and program enhancements. Ensure retail operations (approximately 5% of revenue, focused on skincare and cosmetics) are managed effectively and complement spa services. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a fitness, spa, or wellness facility; private club or hospitality experience preferred. Proven ability to lead teams, manage contractors, and deliver premium member experiences. In-depth knowledge of fitness and spa industry trends, equipment maintenance, and wellness programming. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with marketing professionals and committee leaders. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Current CPR/AED certification required; professional fitness/wellness certifications (e.g., ACSM, NASM, ACE) strongly preferred. Knowledge of local and state health codes and licensing requirements applicable to spa and fitness facilities.
