The Group Exercise Coordinator, under the direction of the Health & Wellness Director, spearheads the delivery of dynamic in-person and virtual fitness experiences. This role includes hiring, scheduling, and supporting Group Exercise Instructors while ensuring classes meet the evolving needs of our members. You’ll also coach and inspire the wellness team, creating a safe, inclusive, and energized environment where everyone feels welcome to move, grow, and thrive.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Support the YMCA mission and promote a professional work environment through character development by modeling values (caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility) and initiatives. Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate Group Exercise Instructors. Ensuring that fitness instructors follow all administrative procedures and guidelines as outlined in the YMCA Employee Handbook and that they meet national standards and are aligned with member needs. Monitoring staff performance and recommending corrective action as necessary through class audits. Providing regular job performance feedback and assisting the group fitness instructor with corrective and/or additional development. Substitute classes as needed. Manage daily operations and communication for group exercise, including sub schedules and program launches (e.g., Les Mills). Organize, promote, and schedule special group exercise events and programs. Coordinate with marketing to promote activities using current marketing tools. Maintain accurate attendance records and analyze trends with the Health & Wellness Director. Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field of health, fitness, and wellness programming. Recruiting, screening, interviewing, auditioning, and selecting qualified fitness instructors in compliance with national fitness standards. Enforce safety procedures and lead in emergency situations. Maintain exercise areas, equipment, and supplies. Responsible for updating and maintaining the communication between staff and leadership. Maintain HRIS system by updating staff information, managing timecard approvals, and verifying payroll accuracy on a biweekly basis. Ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll for Group Exercise staff. Support YMCA fundraising efforts and participate in Annual Campaigns. Handle member concerns professionally and promptly. Assist in planning and conducting staff meetings. Attend all required meetings, trainings, and evaluations. Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions. Provide ongoing feedback and development to group exercise staff.

Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum age: 21 2+ years of supervisory experience in fitness or wellness 3+ years of group fitness experience preferred (YMCA experience a plus) Nationally recognized Group Exercise certifications (AFAA, ACE required; Les Mills highly desired) CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 certification required Completion of all required YMCA trainings (e.g., New Hire Orientation, CAP, Sexual Harassment) Satisfactory criminal background check
