Aquatics Director Scouting America New Hampshire Gilmanton Iron Works, NH 03837 Aquatics Director Job Summary Since 1912, Scouting America New Hampshire has delivered the Scouting program to New Hampshire youth, fostering a conscientious and productive society. The Griswold Scout Reservation (GSR), a 3,200+ acre property in the Belknap Mountains, serves as a four-season Scouting destination, delivering the aims of Scouting through our long-held methods of outdoor experiences. This property has two waterfronts and multiple pristine lakes perfect for water-based recreation. The Griswold Aquatics Director reports to and works closely with the Program Director to lead staff and volunteers in delivering aquatics summer camp programming for youth ages 11 and up, ensuring a safe, fun, and memorable experience.
Requirements for employment:
Minimum age of 21, per Scouting America Current certificate as Scouting America Aquatics Instructor as required by NH-DPH, per Scouting America. Current certificate in American Red Cross Lifeguard with First Aid, CPR, AED, and Waterfront Module. , per Scouting America and NH-DPH Responsible to: Program Director Primary responsibility: Overall leadership of a safe, instructionally sound, and enjoyable camp aquatics program. Staff leadership and development are secondary objectives.
Essential Functions:
Ability to participate and graduate from National Camping School, Aquatics section Ability to visually and auditorily supervise campers in all aquatics areas. Ability to respond as needed to emergency situations likely to occur in any aquatics area Ability to perform CPR Ability to physically demonstrate and teach aquatics skills Ability to communicate with campers, leaders, and staff Ability to train, direct, and supervise staff Specific duties: Ensures that all Waterfronts are properly set up Ensures that all equipment is in safe working condition; conducts ongoing maintenance and repair; requests ranger assistance and replacement material as necessary Instructs aquatics staff in the proper use, maintenance, and repair of all equipment Develops a written weekly duty schedule, based on the aquatics program and schedule, for all aquatics staff members Ensures that the aquatics program/schedule and staff duty schedules are being followed by self and staff, as specified With the Program Director, trains and coaches aquatics staff in all areas of responsibility Waterfront safety and procedures Personal fitness and knowledge of skills Instructional and recreational techniques Lesson plans for specific activities Assigns, supervises, coaches, and evaluates Staff Training Program and Counselor in Training participants assigned to the waterfront Selects, trains, and supervises the second wave of aquatics rescue personnel from the general camp staff. Ensures that swim classifications are conducted as described in the Aquatics Supervision Manual Maintains strict adherence to all safety rules and procedures for campers, staff, and adult leaders Determines consequences for infractions of waterfront safety rules Takes charge of Lost Bather Drills and Lost Bather Alerts Ensures that the following are completed: Mid-season staff evaluations End-of-season staff evaluations Closing Inventories End-of-season report At the end of camp, ensure that the waterfront area and all equipment are put away according to the Takedown Plan Any other duties assigned by the Camp Director or their Designee.

Schedule:
10 hour shift Application Question(s): This is a Summer Camp Staff Job. Staff live on camp for about 10-weeks, starting with camp staff training mid-June 2025. Starting June 29th are 7 week-long camp sessions. You will be given a night off every week-long session. Staff additionally get at least 24 hours off between sessions from Saturday to Sunday every week. Additional time off can be granted and agreed upon with camp leadership. You will recieve staff uniforms, paid training, all meals will be provided during the duration of your time at camp. There are tent and cabin accommodations available to the staff. Staff will have onsite laundry and shower facilities available to them as well. At the conclusion of the season, in the 3rd week of August, camp staff remain for a brief breakdown period and concluded with a banquet to celebrate the summer.
