THE POSITION

Are you interested in developing activities, programming, and recreational opportunities that support inmate rehabilitation? The Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mercer is seeking a Corrections Activities Manager 2 to oversee our activities department. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Activities Manager, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, scheduling, and coordinating a program of wellness and leisure time activities involving creative and performing arts, social recreation, crafts, athletics, and games of wide scope and variety for the inmate population. Work includes preparing requisitions for supplies and equipment, acting as chairperson for the Inmate General Welfare Fund, as well as coordinating and supervising inmate organizations. This role requires effective communication skills and the ability to form working relationships that encourage inmate participation in activities and programs. You will also be responsible for evaluating subordinate staff performance and exercise therapeutic care, custody, and control over inmates at all times. today to join our dynamic activities department where you will have the opportunity to provide inmates with constructive outlets to express their creativity and abilities! Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Telework:

 You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Salary:

 Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,736 (before taxes).
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Two (2) years of experience as a Corrections Activities Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or One year as a Corrections Activities Manager 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Three (3) years of experience in developing and conducting a variety of recreational activities, including one (1) year in Corrections and one year of supervisory or lead work experience, and a bachelor’s degree, with major course work in recreation and physical education; or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

Successful completion of Basic Training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
