GOLF GROUNDS CREW LEADER
City of Fairhope (AL) Fairhope, AL 36532 JOB Under the general supervision of the Golf Grounds Manager, the Golf Grounds Crew Leader performs general maintenance and upkeep of the golf course grounds. The employee applies herbicides and pesticides to facilitate optimal conditions for the golf course greens. This employee operates a variety of lawn and power equipment to ensure the golf course is maintained according to City standards, policies, and procedures. The employee assists and acts as a point of reference for maintenance workers. General inspection of equipment is performed to ensure efficient operation. The employee performs manual labor to ensure golf greens are maintained and free of debris. This job is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to a pre-employment background check and random drug screenings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
Turf Management. Applies herbicides and pesticides, visually inspects turf conditions, and operates irrigation system to ensure optimal conditions for the turf. Acts as a point of reference for other maintenance workers in the absence of the supervisor.
Assists with the preparation and mixing of fertilizes and herbicides.
Applies fertilizers, fungicides, pesticides, and insecticides for the control of disease and insects that are harmful to grass and other plants.
Inspects soil and turf conditions for disease or areas of concern; reports to supervisor if necessary.
Inspects irrigation system to ensure optimal operation.
Troubleshoots irrigation system if problems exist; refers to guidelines and manuals for assistance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
Golf Grounds Maintenance. Performs maintenance duties on the golf grounds to include cutting grass, picking up debris, and operating various equipment to ensure greens are maintained according to the City’s standards. Assists and guides ground maintenance workers.
Performs all scheduled and preventive maintenance associated with the golf course.
Maintains fairways and all adjacent golf course property.
Operates various types of lawn mowers such as zero turn, fairway unit, and greens mower for cutting the greens to ensure proper trimming and maintenance.
Operates small equipment such as a hedge trimmer, chain saw, and limb saw in order to trim bushes, shrubs, and tree limbs. Performs preventive and light maintenance on equipment to include checking oil and fluids, changing belts, and sharpening and changing blades.
Performs manual labor such as picking up excess pine straw, pinecones, leaves, and weeds.
Removes trash and debris from golf grounds to ensure sanitary conditions and proper appearance.
Weed eats around trees and shrubs for proper trimming.
Visually inspects equipment to assess for malfunctions or inefficiency.
Listens for ques during equipment operation to assess for proper operation and any malfunctions. Changes the cups on the greens to ensure smoothness.
Inspects cups to ensure proper cup location, cups are in fair condition, and flags are in proper location.
Maintains bunkers to include raking and picking up and removing debris.
Plants grass, trees, shrubs, or flowers according to instructions and planned design of landscaped area.
Applies mulch and pine straw to designated areas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
Building Maintenance. Performs light cleaning, maintenance, and repairs on facilities to assist with the efficient and effective operations of the golf course. Performs preventative maintenance of facilities and buildings.
Assists with cleaning buildings and washing windows using various cleaning supplies and equipment.
Assists with the minor repairs of buildings and facilities.
Picks up trash and other debris.
Utilizes the backpack blower to blow dust and debris from out and around the shop and golf course.
Assists and supports the mechanic within the shop, when necessary.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

Physical Demands The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; recurring lifting moderately heavy items such as record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity. Work Environment The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; with contagious diseases or irritant chemicals, etc. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
