Essential Functions General Aquatics:
Assists Aquatic Director in leading by example for all aquatics staff 35-40 hours per week lifeguarding Understands and observes all safety rules and regulations Assists Aquatic Director in ensuring all Aquatics Shifts are covered Bather Load/Water Fitness Attendance Safety Equipment Checks (Safety Turtles, and Lifeguard Equipment Checks)
Lifeguards:
Assist in monthly lifeguard in-services Conducts lifeguard skill tests monthly (Silhouette, red ball, etc.) Assists Aquatic Director with the following Swim Lesson tasks (as needed): Assists with swim lesson supervision Assists with swim lesson bi-monthly meetings Assign Private Lessons to instructors Create and Maintain Progress Trackers and other swim lesson reports (Certificate of Achievement, Mid Session Reports) Update swim lessons signs for the first day of classes
Branch Operations:
Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with members and staff Assists in YMCA fund-raising activities and special events. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all staff and member inquiries and complaints in timely manner Other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director as necessary. CPR for the Professional Rescuer / First Aid / AED / Oxygen certification required Lifeguard and Swim Lesson Instructor certification required YMCA Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred Strong supervisory experience preferred A minimum of 3 years of experience required in an Aquatic Department within the YMCA, community pool environment, or health club sector Ability to recruit, retain, and coach staff; while fostering a positive team atmosphere Exemplifies a proactive, hands-on approach, as well as a professional work ethic Ability to work a non-traditional schedule including some nights and weekends Strong interpersonal, organization and communication skills Energetic, devoted, mission driven, team oriented individual Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Physical Demands Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
