JOB DESCRIPTION

A small group leader will assist campers with medical and/or special needs while facilitating camp participation including mobility assistance, self-care, communication, and group safety. Oversees and directs a group of approximately 10-12 campers during organized group activities and transitions. Group leaders may coordinate with other staff members to assist in implementing camp rules and guidelines. Leaders will communicate with counselors, staff, and parents regarding daily camper experience with the assistance and input of campers’ individual counselors.

BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB A

small group leader will provide leadership and guidance to promote a fun, safe, and engaging camp environment while promoting camper participation and maintaining group schedules.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Leadership Confident interaction with children (age groups 5-17) Clear Communication Group Collaboration and small group management Ability to delegate tasks to volunteers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Group Management of children ages 5-18 Adherence to a set schedule of activities and programs Problem Solving Clear Communication with campers, staff, and parents Collaboration with medical team to organize care schedules. Provide assistance with camper mobility and self-care as needed. Ensure camper safety and assess group dynamics for optimal engagement.

REQUIREMENTS-Note:

Heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling is required up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20-30 lbs frequently, and 10lbs constantly to move objects of up to 150 lbs. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure to lifting or moving of up to 150 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting squatting, reaching, and standing are required.
