Job Description Performs professional work planning, implementing, and managing the operations, community events, Growers’ Market, special programs and related work as required. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Recreation Superintendent. Exercises full supervision over Event Assistant. Essential Duties of the Position The following duties are those considered most essential to the position. This does not preclude the delegation of other duties considered as necessary by management to successfully complete an assignment or project. Oversees the planning, organization, and facilitation of various special events. Assists in the operations of Veterans Park including rentals, contracts, and reservations, internal and external events/programs.
Performs safety checks on facilities and equipment before setting up for various programs; restores facilities and equipment after programs are completed, as needed.
Performs various administrative duties associated with special events such as annual budget for current and new events; document expenditures; prepares event reports, surveys and tracks attendance.
Supervises full- and part-time staff; participates in recruitment and selection process; recommends appropriate candidates for hire; recommends disciplinary and termination actions.
Coordinates communication and partnerships with the public, co-sponsors, and community organizations.
Manages department policies and procedures for town event manual, vendor contracts, and alcohol policy agreements. Assists with marketing and securing sponsorships and grants for events, programs, and facility enhancements.
Analyzes recreation program trends and modifies existing programs/events based on community needs and desires.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the community and the media.
Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Required Education and Experience General knowledge of the equipment and techniques necessary to successfully conduct special events, recreation programs and facility operations; general knowledge of the methods involved in organizing, conducting, promoting and supervising special events & recreational activities; knowledge of computer software appropriate to programs and events; general knowledge of first aid methods and necessary safety precautions to be used in recreation work; ability to provide working leadership to a group of event staff, vendors, facility renters and volunteers; ability to express ideas clearly both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, associates and the general public; ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public and staff. Bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education, or related field with 2 to 3 years of experience in organizing special events, recreation programs, or facility operations and supervision over full- and part-time staff. Or a combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, abilities, and skills to complete the essential functions and job responsibilities of this position. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license. Must possess or obtain first aid, CPR, and Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certifications within 12 months of employment. The ability to work weekends and evenings is required for this position. Supplemental Information This position’s physical requirements involve medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities may be required: balancing, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, and/or walking. Work frequently requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires exposure to moderate to extreme cold and heat environmental conditions. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office with computer printers, light traffic).
