Job Description The Programming and Events Manager oversees event and program management, collaborating with user groups to plan and execute events, supervising staff, delivering outstanding customer service to both internal and external user groups, managing budgets, coordinating the planning and execution of programs and events, and ensuring compliance with safety and risk management policies and procedures. Regular night and weekend work is required with this position.

Duties and Responsibilities Plan, organize logistics, and manage event operations, overseeing resource scheduling, staffing, and production coordination. Serve as the lead event planner for the Dix Park team.
Handle administrative event management tasks, including preparing and updating schedules, conducting planning meetings, preparing estimates and work orders, addressing issues, and communicating with relevant stakeholders. Coordinate and implement programs and events that align with the city’s, department’s, and park’s strategic goals. Ensure adherence to safety and risk management policies. Plans and manages annual operating budgets for Dix Park programs and events. This includes budgeting, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring financial efficiency.
Supervises team of part-time staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures.
Responds to inquiries, concerns, or complaints; collaborates with internal and external stakeholders; and provides subject matter expertise and consultation.
Performs other job-related tasks as assigned including but not limited to being accessible after-hours to support staff, emergency situations and inclement weather responsibilities.

Typical Qualifications Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in hospitality, communications, public relations or directly related field and three years of event booking and/or event planning and coordination experience with a convention center or similar venue OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing and Certifications:

Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

CPR/First Aid and AED certification

ADA and Other Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require: standing, walking, fingering, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work:

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work, and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light work.

Working Conditions:

Work is routinely performed in an indoor, office environment.
