Job Summary:

The Meat Counter Clerk is responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining departmental cleanliness and organization, and ensuring adherence to food safety standards. This role requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Service:

○ Greet customers warmly and assist them with their meat and deli selections. ○ Answer customer questions about products, cuts of meat, preparation methods, and ingredients. ○ Process customer orders accurately and efficiently. ○ Handle customer complaints and resolve issues in a professional and courteous manner.

Department Maintenance & Sanitation:

○ Maintain a clean and organized work area, including counters, cases, slicers, grinders, and other equipment. ○ Sanitize all tools and equipment regularly and according to food safety guidelines. ○ Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper handling of raw meat and cold chain management. ○ Dispose of waste properly. ○ Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to management.

Inventory & Receiving:

○ Monitor inventory levels and communicate shortages to management. ○ Minimize waste and spoilage.

Teamwork & Other Duties:

○ Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth department operations. ○ Assist in other areas of the store as needed. ○ Adhere to all company policies and procedures. ○ Participate in training programs as required.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Must be 18 or older.
• Previous experience in a meat, deli, grocery, or food service environment is a plus.
• Knowledge of different cuts of meat, deli products, and food preparation techniques.
• Ability to operate deli equipment safely and efficiently (slicers, grinders, etc.).
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic math skills for weighing and pricing products.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects (up to X lbs – specify weight, e.g., 50 lbs), and work in a cold environment.
• Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
• Manual dexterity for operating equipment and handling products.
• Exposure to cold temperatures (refrigerated areas).

Pay is commensurate with experience.
