Mermaid Model Job Description
Mermaid models bring the magic to Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach. They are responsible for engaging our guests, providing an enthusiastic and extraordinary mermaid experience for guests of all ages. Mermaids are involved in photos, shows in an 85,000 gallon tank and special events. The right candidate for the mermaid model position is outgoing, friendly and possesses a willingness to learn!
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide outstanding customer service to all potential Ripley’s guests.
Smile and make eye contact with each and every guest; greet and welcome visitors in a respectful and cheerful manner.
Create a persona of a complete mermaid character.
Wear either a neoprene photo tail and/or a silicone tail to swim in an 85,000 gallon tank with stingrays and small sharks.
Interact and entertain audiences of all ages.
Create a magical experience for guests during events, shows and photos.
Be willing to learn mermaid makeup techniques and apply them.
Greet and take photographs of families.
Additional duties as required.
Must be energetic, courteous and professional.
Required Qualifications:
Must love talking to people!
Must be approachable and enthusiastic about communicating with guests.
Excellent communication skills.
Must be available to work a variety of shifts, to include nights, weekends and holidays.
Must be comfortable in the water and willing to train
Must be willing to train to perform in a prosthetic fin
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to bend, stoop and kneel in order to put tails on and take photos.
Must be healthy and fit as this is a physically demanding underwater show.
Due to the limitations of the Monofin device, female candidates should be no larger than a size 10-12 while male candidates should be no larger than a waist size of 31-33

Experience with swimming in a monofin
Strong swimming skills
