Part Time Facility Team Member – Eves & Weekends First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge 1350 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830 Qualifications Possess experience as a custodian, janitor, or similar role. 2. Knowledgeable of general maintenance and upkeep of larger facilities. Knowledgeable of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and supplies. Possess familiarity with basic repair person practices. Knowledgeable of safe disposal of liquid chemicals and other hazardous components. 6. Able to physically lift and move up to 50 lbs. Ability to collaborate and work without close supervision. Able to take instructions from immediate supervisor and other staff members. Able to make decisions based on outlined duties, church policy and procedures. To Whom Responsible Facilities Director Responsibilities The emphasis of this position is on cleaning, setting up and tearing down of rooms, and stepping in to perform general maintenance of the facilities as requested. Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces. Worship spaces are key areas to be cleaned and set for upcoming services and/or events. Sweeps and mops floors, and vacuums carpets. Washes and sanitizes all bathrooms, including all toilets and sinks and ensures all supplies are restocked. Perform daily custodial duties as outlined by the Facilities Director, including opening and/or closing of the building when necessary. Ensures that the building is clean and sets up scheduled activities in coordination with the Office Manager, Facilities Director, Business & Finance Director, congregation members and other staff members. Being aware of any repairs inside and outside the building and notifies the Facilities Director and/or the Business and Finance Director of such repairs. Works to make repairs, as directed by Facilities Director. Specific Duties 1. Cleaning of the building will include emptying all trash from every area of the building, dusting, dust mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, stripping, and waxing of floors, and shampooing carpets throughout the building, cleaning of bathroom floors, walls, toilets, sinks, counter tops, and mirrors in bathrooms, washing windows and blinds, and cleaning the four kitchens. Attention to detail and thoroughness is expected. 2. Cleaning the Sanctuary will include removal of all leftover bulletins and other trash, dusting pews and other woodwork, and mopping floors; ensure it is set up correctly for upcoming services 3. General Maintenance will include performing minor repairs (replacing light bulbs inside and outside, fixing door handles, broken switches, minor leaks, and other plumbing issues) as requested; keeping all closets neat and orderly, working with all repair crews, firemen, and police when needed and as directed by the Facilities Director. 4. Set up for meetings will include setting up and taking down all tables and chairs, or other items needed for an event. 5. Security will include making sure all doors and windows are locked and secure before building is closed for the day. Staying aware of strangers in and on the premises. Alerting the Facilities Director, Business and Finance Director and the church office of their presence (in that order). Calling police or firefighters if the situation requires it.
Additional information:
- This staff member reports to the Facilities Director or Business & Finance Director and works in coordination with all Pastors and the Trustees Chairperson.
- The regular work week is Wednesday through Sunday, understanding additional time may be required, as needed.
- This position is considered Essential and may be required to work in times of inclement weather or emergency building closure.
