Non-Exempt Position Summary:

The Lead Hostess is the first point of contact for guests, setting the tone for the entire dining experience. This role goes beyond traditional hosting by leading the host team, managing floor plans, guest flow, and wait times, while ensuring a seamless and welcoming experience. The Lead Hostess models hospitality excellence and collaborates with management to optimize guest satisfaction and operational flow during service.

Key Responsibilities:

Guest Experience & Hospitality Greet all guests warmly and professionally upon entry and departure Engage guests with thoughtful conversation, maintaining awareness of repeat visitors and VIP preferences Monitor and manage wait times, using reservation or waitlist systems efficiently Handle guest inquiries, complaints, or special requests with grace and urgency Team Leadership Train, coach, and support host team members in delivering exceptional hospitality Delegate tasks such as table resets, menu upkeep, and guest communication Conduct daily pre-shift meetings with the host team to review reservations, large parties, and special occasions Monitor uniform standards and professionalism among the host team Floor Management & Communication Create, adjust, and manage floor plans and seating rotation to balance server sections and ensure smooth service flow Collaborate with managers, servers, and kitchen staff to accommodate pacing and special circumstances Support accurate and timely seating, minimizing bottlenecks and miscommunication Use guest management software (e.g., OpenTable, Resy, Yelp Waitlist) effectively Administrative & Operational Duties Maintain host stand cleanliness and supply levels (menus, check presenters, reservation tools) Update guest profiles and reservation notes for future experiences Communicate with management about guest feedback, team performance, and service trends Assist with scheduling and onboarding of new host team members

Qualifications:

1-2 years hosting or guest service experience in a high-volume or fine dining environment Previous leadership or training experience preferred Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and timing Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills Familiarity with reservation systems (e.g., OpenTable, Resy, SevenRooms) Poised, professional appearance and demeanor under pressure

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for extended periods Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, navigating tight spaces Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds

Work Environment:

Evening, weekend, and holiday availability required High guest interaction in a busy, social setting

Job Types:
Full-time, Part-time Pay:

$18.00 – $22.00 per hour Expected hours: 25 – 40 per week
