Basic Job Function:
This position is generally responsible for supporting the Steward Manager with the sanitation duties and day to day operation in the Stewarding Department. Contribute to the profitability and effective operation by controlling china, glass, silver and equipment on a daily basis. Promote the Sea Island legacy of warm genuine hospitality while upholding and ensuring compliance with all company and departmental policies and procedures.
Use of Company Vehicle:
Designated to drive a company vehicle
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum two (2) years experience in a stewarding in a luxury hotel or hotel Supervisory experience preferred Knowledge of food preparation and sanitation procedures Must possess or obtain Serv-safe certification within a three (3)-months period from hire date as a condition of continued employment High school diploma preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Good knowledge of inventory control, food sanitation, health and safety regulations and hazardous chemical procedures Ability to understand and follow safety requirements Valid Georgia Driver’s License Company policy requires that one must be 21 years of ago or older to drive a company vehicle Knowledge of chemical use and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) rules Basic computer skills in Windows XP and Microsoft Office software applications such as: Word, Excel, and Outlook Proficient with peripherals, copier, fax, and telephone Must possess a positive attitude and have the ability to work with a variety of people and in cooperation with coworkers efficiently and effectively Must be detail oriented and able to manage competing priorities and multiple deadlines in a fast paced environment Ability to easily adapt to organizational and environmental changes If applicable, must be flexible to working days, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays Report to work at the scheduled time, neatly groomed and in compliance with company
Dress Code Policy Tasks/Responsibilities:
Prepare schedule (including vacation schedule) for stewarding department Assist in monitoring payroll daily to control labor expenses Responsible for training all new hires Assist manager with discipline actions Maintain a weekly breakage report and reviews with manager on weekly basis Assist with end of the month inventories on china, glass and silver Monitor, order and issue all cleaning supplies to stewarding department Assist with weekly kitchen inspections to ensure area meets or exceeds Health Department Rules and regulations Develop and administer procedures for maintaining inventories of china, silverware and glassware Generally responsible for all the kitchen (s) sanitation on property Transportation of banquet food and equipment to and from events Follow the rules/regulations of food transportation to protect from contamination and spoilage of food Properly clean and store all china, silver, utensils, pots, pans, serving ware and other equipment Review mis-en-place form and communicate needs for china, glass, silver and other special equipment if needed Perform sanitation duties such as mopping floors, cleaning work surfaces, empty trash containers, sweeping floors, etc Maintain equipment in a professional manner and maintain a clean, safe and efficient work station Report equipment break downs and safety concerns to Manager Communicate with the Chef on delivery time for food and equipment needed for events Ensure that food and equipment is set up prior to the event based on the standard set for having receptions or buffets set up Ensure that all cocktail parties and receptions are set up with props Inform the Chef on duty of additional food requirements, restocking of food Break down and return food, equipment, to the assigned areas Ensure that all food is returned to the Chef for inspection and that all equipment is clean and stored properly Maintain equipment in a professional manner and maintain a clean, safe and efficient work station Assist and partner with the Security department in maintaining Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) standards Handling chemicals safely following all Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) procedures Assist with maintaining current MSDS files Lodge Stewarding Maintain a thorough knowledge of current guest services, activities, dining options, shops, local attractions, and historical information regarding Sea Island and the surrounding area to answer any questions guests may have to the best of one’s ability If applicable, complete a Guest Problem Resolutions (GPR) form on any issues (solved or unsolved issues) and follow-up on issues as needed (if computer access is not available give information to admin support) Maintains cleanliness and organization in all work areas Uphold appropriate departmental standards of quality/timing Uphold and ensure compliance with all company and departmental policies and procedures Report all equipment problems and maintenance issues, known safety hazards, or unsafe practices and procedures to supervisor immediately Attends all scheduled employee meetings and brings suggestions for improvement Willing and timely execution of other duties as delegated by leadership
Other Requirements:
Ability to kneel, crouch, squat, climb, stand, sit, balance, reach, bend, push, pull and walk for prolonged periods Ability to change work locations during the same shift If applicable, must have the ability to work for extended time periods in an outdoor environment, including sun, heat, cold, wind, rain, and higher than normal noise levels Ability to perform repetitive tasks with accuracy Ability to lift, carry, pull and push up to 50 lbs repeatedly throughout a shift Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical and fume hazards
