PARAPROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS 1.
High school diploma or equivalent. : 2. Successful experience working with children preferred. 3. Two (2) years of college experience or obtain a score of three (3) or higher on each section of the Work Keys assessment or approved alternative to meet highly qualified status. 4. Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

JOB GOAL
To assist the teacher, student(s) and/or other school personnel by performing assigned tasks.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1.
Assists the teacher(s) in preparing materials and equipment for direct instructional activity, including locating, copying, collating, distributing and/or grouping materials to support instructional activities planned by the teacher. 2. Examines short- and long-term unit plans prepared by the teacher and anticipates the need for specific supplies and materials. 3. Follows appropriate training and leads small group activities planned by the teacher in an atmosphere where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences. 4. Assists the teacher in preparing for changing curriculum to meet the needs of students with diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs. 5. If working with students with disabilities, become knowledgeable of the student’s disability and the appropriate instructional and behavioral strategies for that student. 6. If working with students with disabilities, be willing and physically able to feed, diaper, toilet, transfer a student to /from a wheelchair, and (with another adult’s assistance) lift a student. 7. Maintains a clean and orderly environment for students. 8. Manages the computer lab or computer assisted instruction in the classroom. 9. Assists teacher with student supervision as assigned. 10. Assists in maintaining the security of records, materials, and equipment. 11. Assists the teacher in the enforcement of classroom rules and the maintenance of appropriate records. 12. Assists in assessing student progress as directed, including proctoring the administration of tests and maintaining confidential records. 13. Provides instructional assistance as planned or coordinated by the teacher. 14. Communicates effectively with the staff members, students, parents, administrators, and other contact persons using tact and good judgment. 15. Follows attendance, punctuality, and proper dress rules. 16. Ensures adherence to good safety standards. 17. Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters. 18. Models and maintains high ethical standards. 19. Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities. 20. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary, benefits, length of work year, and hours of employment shall be established by the Board’s salary schedule.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
CHAMBERS COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION JOB DESCRIPTION 1.

SUPERVISED BY
Principal, Facilities Director 1. Good knowledge of tools, materials and methods to safely perform the work required connected with resurfacing and shampooing floors, cleaning surfaces, waste disposal, and general maintenance of the school.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
2. Ability to read, write and follow instructions. 3. Knowledge of or ability to learn sanitation standards. 4. Ability to organize materials, manage time, and solve problems. 5. Ability to do simple mathematics. 6. Ability to lift, bend, stoop, walk, carry and reach over head. 7. Ability to do grounds keeping and minor maintenance. 8. Ability to supervise summer workers. 9. Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships. 10. Ability to work outdoors in a variety of conditions and temperatures. 11. Ability to observe and report needs for maintenance and supplies. 12. Ability to get along with students, teachers and the general public. 13. Ability to climb and work from ladders or scaffolds, and moving furniture, textbooks and supplies. 14. Adequate strength and dexterity to perform all tasks including lifting, stooping and bending.
JOB GOAL
To provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play, work and develop. 1. Keeps building and premises, including restrooms, commons areas, classrooms, hallways, sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat and clean.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
2. Checks daily to insure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy. 3. Sweeps and/or vacuums classrooms daily and dusts furniture. 4. Scrubs, hoses down and disinfects toilet floors daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily. 5. Cleans corridors after school each day and during the day when their condition requires it. 6. Washes all windows on both the inside and the outside at least one time a year, and more frequently if necessary. 7. Handles hazardous materials and wastes in a safe and sanitary manner. 8. Makes minor repairs and performs maintenance duties as needed. 9. Reports needs for major repairs promptly to the principal. 10. Reports immediately to the principal any damage to the school property. 11. Remains on the school premises during established work hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and attendance is required by the principal. 12. Attends work on a regular basis, adheres to time schedules, and reports absences in a timely manner. 13. Reports work-related injuries as required. 14. Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights turned off, except those left on for safety reasons. 15. Arms/disarms alarms or security systems as directed 16. Keeps an inventory of supplies and equipment, and requisitions needed replacements from the principal on a timely basis. 17. Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal. 18. Complies with appropriate laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste and maintains acceptable health and safety standards regarding the use of cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, etc. as directed. 19. Attends meetings, trainings, conferences, or workshops as directed. 20. Adheres to rules, policies and regulations. 21.
