M About The Practice:

Our clinic offers spay/neuter surgeries to shelter animals, rescues, and targets individuals who cannot afford to have their pets sterilized elsewhere. We are NOT a traditional veterinary practice but still offer top-notch care! Our mission is to reduce the pet over-population problem in the Birmingham metro area and beyond and therefore decrease shelter euthanasia and increase pet adoption. This is a fast-paced environment focused on providing high quality, high volume spay and neuter surgeries. Our veterinary team performs over 12,000 surgeries in a year (i.e. we make a mess). The ideal candidate will take the initiative to complete tasks as an individual to keep our hospital looking clean and smelling fresh and allow our medical team to focus solely on patient care. We look for easy-going, low-drama folks, who maintain a positive attitude and have a sense of humor. This is an on-the-move kind of job, no time to stand around and be idle, we are busy the entire day. The ideal candidate will be timely, reliable, courteous and respectful to team members, hard-working, detail-oriented, presentably dressed, an excellent communicator, and easy-going. We work hard, but have fun while doing it!

Hours:

Monday-Thursday from 8 am to 3 pm. Please do not apply if you are not available to clean during these times.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The Cleaner/Custodian focuses on building cleanliness and upkeep and requires detail and diligence in custodial maintenance. Keep in mind this is a veterinary clinic so we have “unique” messes. We also will be asking you to complete random small jobs or tasks that require using basic tools.

Duties include:

1. Cleans rooms which include but are not limited to cleaning furniture, wet tables, behind and underneath kennel banks, kennel doors, floors, and medical equipment with cleaning solutions and disinfectants; cleans bathrooms; replenishes soap, tissues, and towels. 2. Sweeps and mops, floors; vacuums and shampoos/washes carpets/mats. Removes stickers from concrete floors. 3. Dust and cleans windows, sills, wipes walls, counters, cabinets, drawers, hallways, light fixtures, closets, shelves, storage, or other designated areas. 4. Empties waste containers and replaces liners. Sweeps and cleans parking areas; outdoor dog potty areas, the bay area where pets are loaded and unloaded, clean outside windows; replace light bulbs (fluorescent lights in dropped ceiling). 5. Performs custodial duties as needed. 6. Utilizes the following tools in the performance of duties: broom and dustpan, dust cloths, mop, pressure washer, and any other tools needed to perform duties. 7. Able to drive an automobile to pick up veterinary and/or cleaning supplies, usually at Wal-mart 2 miles away, this is done every 1-2 weeks. 8. Must conduct him/herself in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner always with clients, and co-workers. 9. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. 10. Ability to complete an assigned task in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness. 11. Must read chemical labels and follow safe handling procedures. 12. Must understand and follow safety rules. 13. Must be able to work in a cooperative manner with co-workers and supervisors. 14. Perform other duties similar in nature and level as required. 15. Monitor and reports security issues to the proper authority. 16. Assists with unpacking and re-stocking veterinary inventory items. 17. Makes small minor/repairs as needed with equipment or tools used by the veterinary team. 18. Able to climb a step ladder to remove deceased bugs from light fixtures.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervision:

None! You mostly work independently, though we may engage your help with the team for some tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, including physical, alcohol, and drug screen.

Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

One year of custodial experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 1.

Proven experience as custodian, janitor, or in a similar role 2. Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances 3. Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components 4. Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices (shrub trimming, weed pulling – we will not ask you to cut grass). 5. Attention to detail and conscientiousness 6. Very good physical condition and strength – this job requires bending, stooping, cleaning under things, and cleaning things on a step ladder. 7. Comfortable in a noisy environment and working near and around animals (dogs and cats). We will not ask you to handle pets directly. 8.
