Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to relate well to children, other staff members, and the public
Knowledge of the materials, methods, equipment and practices used in cleaning and minor repair operations
Ability to prescribe and direct the work of other custodians and to train and instruct them
Ability to use a computer for data entry and management
Ability to complete performance reviews and supervise a team of custodians

Preferred Qualifications:

Associates or bachelor’s degree
At least two (2) years’ supervisory custodial or equivalent experience
Knowledge of State Board Rule 6A.2 (S.R.E.F.)
•Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate.

Performance Responsibilities:

Monitors school facility for safety issues, damage, debris, and cleanliness and follows up to assure daily tasks, requests, and repairs are completed.
Works with maintenance and operations to create and monitor work orders, facility change requests, and other needed maintenance repairs.
Orders, distributes and checks use of custodial supplies and equipment.
Maintains custodial records as assigned.
Performs related custodial work as necessary.
Prescribes and/or performs routine and specialized cleaning operations.
Inspects operation of and replaces, as necessary, light bulbs, fluorescent lamps, other lighting fixtures and ceiling tiles. Reports to maintenance, via work order system, needs that transcend bulb replacement.
Complies with and follows health and safety codes, district security procedures, and SREF standards as directed.
Participates in annual SREF inspections and completes follow up work orders or maintenance requests to ascertain compliance.
Inspects custodial machines and equipment. Reports to operations manager or designee those items that need repair.
Reports, via the work order system, repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment.
1Checks fire alarm for operational function and completes necessary follow up.
Attends job-related workshops and training programs.
Plans, schedules, and manages own and others’ time, and prioritizes requests and tasks related to cleaning, maintenance, and special events at school site and on grounds.
Responds to building alarm calls with necessary follow up.
Determines cleaning priorities and scheduling/sequence of work.
Participates in the general cleaning and maintenance of the facility.
Supervises and directs work for other custodians.
Completes evaluations on custodial team members.
Assists with the hiring and selection process for custodial positions.
Oversees the obtaining of custodial substitute coverage to ensure the cleanliness and functionality of the site.
Coordinates with applicable staff, community members, vendors and contractors.
Interacts frequently with teachers, staff members, and administrators face-to-face, by email, or radio in relation to maintaining a clean and healthy environment and in performing minor maintenance.
Assists in directing routine unloading/loading of supple vehicles.
Moves furniture and/or equipment and assists with moving within building when proper and safe moving equipment is available.
Reports (to building administration) acts of vandalism, theft, unsafe conditions or other physical conditions needing repair.
Maintains an effective working relationship with students, other employees, and visitors to the facility.
Works flexible and/or additional work hours upon reasonable request.
Works shelter duty if schools open as emergency shelters.
Performs other job-related functions as may be assigned.
