Summary Under the direction of an Environmental Services Supervisor, the Team Leader supports team members who clean and disinfect the physical environment for patients, visitors, and staff members. The Team Leader will ensure all areas of responsibility are completed by opening and closing the shift, tracking Team Member progress, performing quality inspections, providing supplies and equipment, and informing their Supervisor on the status of the team’s progress. This position performs a variety of duties that support the department in maintaining a clean environment for patients and staff.

Moffitt Policy Responsibilities:

Completion of Job Assignments Opening and closing shifts, ensuring all job assignments are completed properly, ensuring adequate inventory and storage of supplies and linen, assigning tasks and projects, manage bed tracking application, answer phone calls from customers and staff members, complete customer requests, resolve daily operational issues, operate the UV lights, etc. Assumes responsibility of running shift in absence of Supervisor Quality Assurance Perform and document cleaning inspections; train and give feedback to team members Asset Inventory Ensure adequate inventory levels and proper storage of supplies and linen Ensure proper storage of machines and floor cleaning equipment Communication Represent the Environmental Services department positively and professionally at all times Follow up on cleaning or staff issues with ability to deescalate situations Provide feedback to team members and their Supervisor on team members’ performance Maintain positive relationships and good communication with patients, visitors, staff members, and those within the Environmental Services department Report all facilities/maintenance issues to Supervisor and input work orders High-touch surface disinfection and cleaning Properly clean and disinfect all types of areas including clinical inpatient/outpatient (patient rooms, exam rooms, nurse stations, etc.), support/common areas, offices, labs, conference rooms, elevators, stairwells, corridors, external grounds, etc.

  • Handle and dispose of medical waste and sharps observing all required precautions, including properly tying and labeling bags
  • Use proper chemicals, tools, and equipment for each situation
  • Clean spills containing blood or other potentially infectious material using established infection control, safety, and ES departmental procedures Occasionally may have to travel to off-site locations Complete other duties as assigned Training and Competencies Demonstrate competency by completing required departmental education and training Responsible for training team members Policies and Procedures Follow departmental and other regulatory standards regarding all cleaning policies and procedures (using proper disinfectants, labeling chemical bottles, keeping an organized cart, etc.

) Perform all essential functions following established safety and infection control requirements (perform hand hygiene, wear PPE, etc.) Follow instructions from Environmental Services management

Credentials and Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED Required. An additional six (6) months of related experience may be considered in lieu of HS diploma/GED
Two (2) years customer service experience
Eighteen months (18) of environmental services or housekeeping experience. Inclusive of one (1) year experience in a healthcare setting
One (1) year Supervisory or Project Lead experience

  • internal candidates with 6 months supervisory or project lead experience may be considered
    Must complete Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) certification within 18 months of hire.

Valid Driver’s License required
