JOB DESCRIPTION JOB GOAL

To provide leadership and skilled work in sanitation of plant facilities, and to assist in maintenance of buildings and grounds.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Custodian. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirement. Completion of Certified Custodian Training. Completion of Master Custodian Training within two (2) years of employment. Completion of District Leadership Training within two (2) years of employment. Possession of Limited Lawn and Ornamental license within twelve (12) months of hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to plan, schedule, instruct, and direct staff of custodial personnel. Knowledge of fire protection, sanitation, and safety standards as applicable to schools. Thorough knowledge of custodial operations, processes, and building and grounds maintenance. Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities and even temperament in time of emergency and in the solution of day-to-day problems. Ability to operate both riding and walk behind mowers. Ability to use weed eaters and other hand-operated equipment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in the operation of equipment.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee and maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency. Develop schedules for custodial staff. Instruct custodial staff in safe and proper use of custodial equipment and cleaning supplies. Participate with administrator in annual evaluation of custodial staff. Participate with administrator in the hiring of custodial staff. Prepare and submit work orders, and act as contact person when maintenance personnel arrive on the site. Keep administrator apprised of job and work order status. Develop a security procedure for the proper opening and the safe closure of building(s). Perform cleaning tasks as assigned. Assist custodial staff with any and all assignments. Perform general maintenance duties; determine corrective action for repairs outside his/her scope of work. Perform daily safety playground check Apply pesticides as allowed under Limited Lawn and Ornamental License. Perform maintenance, renovation, and repair of existing facilities. Requisition and distribute custodial supplies. Report all safety hazards. Monitor staff performance and recommend improvements as necessary. Maintain accurate records of daily work and time and payroll information. Follow safety standards in performing work and report unsafe conditions to site administrator in a timely manner. May be required to work after hours and/or weekends. Follow all School Board policies, rules and regulations. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Heavy work. Requires frequent lifting operations involving weights up to fifty pounds, occasional lifting with assistance of heavy objects including teacher’s desks, filing cabinets, large tables, appliances such as refrigerators/washers/dryers, etc. Requires lifting, holding, carrying, sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity. The worker is exposed to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be high at times. Safety is the highest priority.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
